Parents ~ Please Take the Walsh 5 Essentials Survey
We would like your feedback through the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This online survey will help school and district staff understand parent/guardian perceptions regarding communication, school/family partnerships, and school culture and climate.
Individual participation and responses are confidential. If 20% or more of parents/guardians participate, the aggregate results will be available to school staff for review and will be used to understand areas of strength, opportunities for growth and to support the district's work with our students and staff.
Thank you!

First Grade STEAM with Mrs. Marroquin
First graders at Walsh recently completed a unit on light. As a culminating project, students designed and built their own working lights. Using a variety of tools, they assembled each component and then programmed both the light and sound using a coding platform.
Students demonstrated focus, problem-solving, and perseverance throughout the process. This project is one of STEAM teacher Mrs. Marroquin’s favorite units, as it highlights students’ ability to work on challenging projects at such a young age while applying both engineering and coding skills.

Tier 1 or Universal
Communication and awareness are the primary Tier 1 or Universal Level interventions. This will be accomplished through PowerSchool and Attendance Intervention and Communication System.

• All student's attendance will be tracked through PowerSchool and Attendance Intervention of Communication. Attendance postcards will be sent electronically to all students at every 5 absences (5, 10, 15, 20, 25…).
Most students/families (80% or more) are expected to respond to the Universal interventions.
Tier 2
Students’ families that have between 9 and 18 absences will receive personal communication from the school and school principal.
• 9 days of absences o A truancy letter regarding absence concerns (indicating the dates of absences) will be mailed. A copy will be placed in the student’s temporary file. o Meeting with the student (when appropriate)
• 18 days of absences
