Farmington R-7 School District Attends Pioneering School Safety Summit
An FSD leadership team, including Superintendent Dr. Kyle Gibbs and Director of Safety Mr. John Krause, recently attended the Behavioral Risk Assessment Summit in Columbia, Missouri. This event, a collaborative initiative by the FBI and the Missouri School Boards Association’s (MSBA) Center for Education Safety, aimed to advance school safety through effective behavioral risk assessments.
Under the direction of Safety Director Mr. John Krause, the Farmington R-7 School District began implementing behavioral risk assessment training for its specialized teams in 2015, supported by a comprehensive policy adopted on November 16, 2021. This policy establishes a clear protocol for identifying and mitigating potential threats, emphasizing the district's proactive stance on school safety.
The summit provided an essential platform for validation and learning, allowing the Farmington team to engage in expert-led discussions on school violence prevention. Keynote speakers like John McDonald of MSBA and nationally known safety psychology specialist John Nicoletti shared critical insights, reinforcing the district's current practices and suggesting areas for improvement.
Farmington R-7’s participation in the summit underscores its dedication to maintaining a safe, educational environment. By aligning with the latest safety strategies and engaging in ongoing learning, the district continues to lead by example in safeguarding its students and staff.

Seeds of Change: Cultivating Education with the MOSAIC Project
The Farmington R-7 School District is excited to launch the MOSAIC Project, led by Steven E. Brouillette, aiming to transform a 4.54-acre area into a thriving habitat for native plants and a dynamic outdoor classroom for our students. This project will reintroduce native plant species, supporting pollinators and enhancing biodiversity, while seamlessly integrating STEM learning opportunities for students in grades 1-8.
A key step in this project was a controlled burn performed by the dedicated Farmington Fire Department, preparing the land for new growth by removing invasive species and enriching the soil. This effort marks the beginning of creating a natural space for hands-on learning, promoting understanding of ecological balance and conservation.
As we move forward, the MOSAIC Project seeks to create educational spaces and pathways for all students to explore, supported by collaborations with local experts and agencies. Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone involved, especially Steven E. Brouillette and the firefighters, as we work together towards nurturing environmental stewardship among our students. This initiative is more than a land restoration; it's about instilling a lasting appreciation for nature in our community's youth.
New Website and App Will Be Released Later This Month!

April 4th Is School Librarian Appreciation Day!
On this National School Librarian Appreciation Day, April 4th, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and admiration to the incredible library media specialists of the Farmington R-7 School District. Their unwavering dedication not only nurtures the intellectual and creative growth of our students but also fosters a profound love of reading that opens new worlds for them to explore. Through their efforts, our libraries become much more than collections of books; they are vibrant hearts of our schools, brimming with possibilities.
Our Library Media Specialists' role in teaching digital literacy and digital citizenship is more crucial now than ever, preparing our students not just for today but for the world ahead. The innovative makerspaces they host are a testament to their commitment to ignite students' imaginations and inspire creativity, providing spaces where students can explore and bring their ideas to life. These activities, among the myriad of others they organize, transform the library into a dynamic hub of exploration, learning, and growth, underpinned by a deep love of reading.
Today, let us celebrate the Library Media Specialists of FSD! Their tireless work does not go unnoticed. They are not just librarians but mentors, educators, and leaders who empower our youth with the skills and confidence to navigate the world.
