Update on MCAS Testing
The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) is valued by educators and administrators alike to inform best practices in teaching, data collection and drives instruction and collaboration amongst educators across the Commonwealth. Although passing the MCAS has been removed as a requirement for graduation, it remains a state mandate. As such, Bedford Public Schools are expected to ensure that all students have access to and are tested using MCAS measures. Students are expected and encouraged to sit for the test and do the very best they can. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education uses MCAS for the following purposes:
To assess the academic performance of a district and hold schools accountable for student learning
To identify areas where districts need more support
To determine high school student eligibility for scholarships and the Seal of Biliteracy
Bedford Public Schools uses MCAS as a district-wide measure for the following purposes:
To match students to appropriate interventions and supports
To make adjustments to curriculum and instruction
To inform professional development
It is, therefore, very important for students to be present and do their best on these assessments. Thank you for your support. More information on this topic can be found here.
