Superintendent's Update - 5.22.2026
Dear CPS Community,
We are heading into the home stretch with a little over three weeks remaining in the school year – unless, of course, you are a Chelmsford High School senior. As you mark your calendars for upcoming events, I would like to highlight a significant milestone for our seniors. On Saturday, June 6, members of the Class of 2026 will cross the stage at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell as part of the 109th commencement exercises. Preparations are already underway for the ceremony, and we look forward to the speeches and presentation of diplomas in celebration of all the achievements of our graduates.
Speaking of the seniors, today was their last instructional day, which was capped off with an incredible BBQ lunch. Please join me in wishing them all the best as they finish off their high school careers by taking final exams and attending prom, the senior banquet and awards night, as well as enjoying all the memorable “lasts” leading up to graduation.
These past few weeks have been a whirlwind with concerts, art and talent shows and other school-sponsored events that mark the final countdown to summer vacation. There is a palpable buzz of energy in the air with students trying to wrap up final projects, complete last-minute assignments and prepare for exams. Amidst all the hustle and bustle are also moments of celebration, including end-of-year parties, field days and award ceremonies. There are even more events on the horizon as the end of the school year rapidly approaches, and I hope you are able attend as many as your schedule will allow. I would also like to thank the many students, staff and parent volunteers who have worked so hard to make these events possible.
As we close out the week, don’t forget that Monday, May 25, is Memorial Day, a time to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Our schools will be closed on Monday in recognition of this day. The Town of Chelmsford will be hosting a parade and a brief ceremony at the Town Common, followed by ice cream and cake at North Town Hall! Please see the Town Manager’s Newsletter for more information about Monday’s events.
Have a wonderful and relaxing Memorial Day weekend!
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.

Duel Enrollment Recognition Ceremony
On May 20, Middlesex Community College hosted its Dual Enrollment Recognition Ceremony at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium, bringing together students, families and educators to celebrate a remarkable academic achievement. Chelmsford High School is proud to recognize 60 seniors who each earned a minimum of 12 college credits through MCC's Dual Enrollment program — all while completing their high school coursework.
These accomplished students demonstrated exceptional drive and dedication by taking college-level courses alongside their regular studies. The credits they've earned are transferrable to many colleges and universities, positioning them to enter their next chapter of education with a meaningful head start and saving both time and money as they pursue their college and career goals. Though not all students were able to attend the ceremony in person, their achievement is no less celebrated — this was a proud moment for the entire Chelmsford community, recognizing not just an academic milestone, but a lasting investment in each student's future.
CHS World Language Honor Society Holds Induction Ceremony
On Monday, May 18, the CHS World Language Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony. The American Sign Language Honor Society led by Faculty Advisor Meghan Fitzgibbons inducted 13 students. The Sociedad Honmoraria Hispanica led by Faculty Advisor Jessica Ferronetti inducted 22 students. These students are to be commended for their commitment to world language learning and scholarship!

Council of Chelmsford Schools awards 2026 scholarship
The Council of Chelmsford Schools (CoCS) recently awarded its annual scholarship to one very worthy member of Chelmsford High School’s Class of 2026.
Each spring, the CoCS awards a scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, to a graduating CHS senior who plan to attend a two- or four-year college in the fall.
The Council also awards $100 to the Chelmsford Public Schools staff member who inspired the recipient’s essay.
This year’s recipient was Samhita Badhri (Matt Bartos).
During its meeting on Monday, May 18, the CoCS invited Badhri to share her essay. In it, she recalled her first AP Seminar class back in August when CHS educator Matt Bartos asked Badhri and her classmates to “write down a problem in the world that you think is important.”

The Sun: Police help lift up Chelmsford child fighting leukemia
Six-year-old Tyler Bolger marked a major milestone last week when he returned to Byam Elementary School for the first time since being diagnosed with B‑cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia on Jan. 10.
After months of treatment at the Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital, Tyler’s return to the classroom was already a moment worth celebrating — and the day only grew even more memorable.
Following school, Tyler visited the Chelmsford Police Department with his parents, Matt and Jenn, and his sisters, Reese and Reagan. During a tour of the station, where he met officers and spent time with K9 Ozzie, the family was surprised with a $5,500 donation from Cops for Kids with Cancer and the Chelmsford Police to support them as Tyler continues treatment.
