PCHS WeeklyUpdatesDecember 17, 2021

Message from Principals McBride & Woods

PCHS Community,

A heartfelt happy holidays from the entire PCHS staff! It was a spirited week this week with door decorations, spirit days, a student-led fashion show, a photo fundraiser over lunches, gift exchanges, donation drives, and alumni visits. We were even serenaded in the Commons between every class today! While there is a heck of a lot going on around us in the world right now, there are also so many beautiful moments every single day here on campus at PCHS. We are blessed with wonderful students, supportive families, and a stellar staff. We wish each and every one of you a restful winter break spent with those you love and will see you in 2022!

Act2 Does us Proud (Once Again!) at State Festival! Act2 Does us Proud (Once Again!) at State Festival!

Congratulations to PCHS Orchestra Students, Parker Duncan & Griffin Rea!

We had two PCHS Orchestra students selected to participate in the EMU Honors Orchestra on Friday, January 14th. Sophomores Parker Duncan and Griffin Rea will attend clinics and rehearsals at EMU during the day, with an evening performance with the EMU Honors Orchestra at Pease Auditorium. A great representation for Pinckney Music!

NHS Blood Drive a Success!

The PCHS National Honor Society in partnership with the American Red Cross had 62 participants and 42 units of blood collected on Wednesday. The Red Cross team commented on what hard workers we had with our NHS team and how polite our students were who participated in the drive. The majority who gave blood were first-time blood donors! Thank you to all who contributed blood and your time!

NWEA Testing - 9th Grade Only

Over the last 2 weeks, our 9th graders took the NWEA MAP Test. This is an assessment our Freshmen have been taking for years in PCS. It provides real-time insight into our students' knowledge and skill in two areas: Math & English Language Arts. 9th grade teachers will be working together in early January to analyze the data from this test to inform their planning for 2nd semester. 9th graders will then take the test again in the Spring, and we'll analyze whether our instructional moves made an impact on students' outcomes and how. We will learn from our 9th grade team's experience with this common assessment to inform our next steps as a PCHS staff.

Parent Volunteers Wanted!

We have lots of students who love to play basketball during lunches, and we could use some more adult presence to support this. If you are available from between 10:50am-12:50pm on Monday-Thursday, we'd love to have you volunteer to hang out with our students in the gym!

If interested, please sign up for any dates you are available via this Sign-Up Genius, fill out this background check form and email it to Kathy Robinson at krobinson@pinckneypirates.org.

Thank you for helping us to create this opportunity for students during lunch! We've already had a number of volunteers, which has been AWESOME!

Latest MDHHS Guidelines for Managing Covid Exposure

We will continue to use the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services Covid Guidance (for now). You can view those guidelines here.

In the Event of Quarantine - How to Engage in Learning from Afar

All of our teachers are using Google Classroom this year. Google Classrooms will be updated regularly and in a way that students can access resources and assignments from anywhere with the internet.

Every teacher's Google Classroom will be organized in the following ways:

  • A daily agenda posted in the Stream (which is the landing page of the Classroom), and potentially in the Classwork area
  • Syllabus posted in a Classroom Materials section in Classwork
  • Resources and assignments organized in a logical manner in Classwork (i.e. by day, week, unit, or project)

We will be working together as a staff to continue to improve our Google Classroom approach so that students can continue their learning with relative ease if quarantined. Your feedback will continue to be appreciated to inform this process.

A Note Re: Quarantine Attendance

Students in quarantine will have their attendance proactively entered by our Main Office. It will be marked with an "M" with the note of Covid quarantine, so teachers know this is the situation and can support these students accordingly.

A reminder that the best defense against quarantine is vaccination!
