Midview Community,

It’s hard to believe we’re already a month into the school year! The energy across our buildings has been inspiring—whether it’s Friday night lights with our football team, cheerleaders, and band, or the excitement around Homecoming and the Hall of Honor, the start of the year has reminded me once again what a special community Midview truly is. Thank you for being a class act and for showing up to support our students in such meaningful ways. With fall events on the horizon, like Trunk or Treat, I know we’ll continue to build memories that bring us together.

I’d also like to take a moment to share an update regarding the Ohio School Report Cards, recently released by the Ohio Department of Education. The Report Card is a tool the state uses each year to show how schools and districts are performing across six key areas: achievement, progress, gap closing, graduation, early literacy, and college/career/military readiness.

We are proud that Midview remains one of the top districts in Lorain County and compares very strongly with our like districts. In fact, we maintained four out of five stars in both achievement and graduation, exceeding state standards. In the brand-new “College, Career, Workforce, and Military Readiness” category, Midview earned two stars—right in line with the state average for this first year of implementation.

However, I do want to be transparent that the state has confirmed a data reporting error impacted three categories (Progress, Early Literacy, and Gap Closing) as well as our overall star rating. Midview is actively working with the state to correct the issue, and once they finalize the update, we will provide a more detailed communication highlighting our accurate scores.

While the report card is just one tool, we take pride in the work happening daily in our classrooms. The effort of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the unwavering support from families and the community make me confident that our best days are still ahead.

That belief is also reflected in our newly adopted 2025–2030 Strategic Plan. After months of listening, reflecting, and collaborating, the Midview Board of Education formally approved this plan in August. It represents the voices of our students, staff, families, and community members and sets bold goals for the future. From academic excellence and innovation to safety, financial responsibility, culture, and communication, this plan is truly our roadmap for the next five years.

I encourage you to take a few minutes to read the story contained in this newsletter. This is more than words on paper—it’s our collective vision, and together we will bring it to life.

Thank you again for your partnership, your positivity, and your belief in Midview. I look forward to the many great things we’ll accomplish this year and to celebrating our students every step of the way.

Once a Middie, Always a Middie,

Dr. Frank Major,

Superintendent, Midview Local Schools

From the very beginning, we had one priority in mind: to create a plan that represents the voices, values, and aspirations of the entire Midview community. In early 2025, Midview Local Schools began the important work of developing a new five-year strategic plan. Shaped through feedback from students, families, staff, and community members, this plan captures our school community’s shared goals and sets a clear direction for the next chapter of Midview’s story.

This plan will serve as our compass, guiding decision-making and resource allocation in the years ahead. Just as importantly, it will serve as a public commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous growth.

Midview Launches Career Learning Hub and Pre-Apprenticeship Programs with Support from Knorr-Bremse Global Care North America

What began as a simple idea to give students hands-on experience pressing t-shirts has grown into something much larger at Midview High School. Thanks to the vision of District Transition Coordinator Jessica Hoban and a transformative $70,000 grant from Knorr-Bremse Global Care North America (KBGCNA), Midview Local Schools has launched three pre-apprenticeship programs designed to provide inclusive, work-based learning opportunities for students of all abilities.

Anchoring the programs is the new Career Learning Hub, formerly the school’s Learning Resource Center. KBGCNA’s grant funded a complete renovation and outfitting of the space as well as equipment and supplies to support:

  • A new classroom to support special education programming

  • A teaching kitchen and sensory room

  • The three pre-apprenticeship programs: The Middie Cafe, Harbor for Hope, and The Kindness Closet.
