Restorative Practices (Part 2)

Just like any healthy family, school, or community, Wildwood has a plan and process for restoring relationships when harm has been done. Just as students need coaching when they encounter academic challenges, they also need guidance for managing social difficulties when they arise.

We would like to share Wildwood's restorative process with you to make you aware of our school approach to managing conflict and to provide you with a research-based and time-proven model for restoring relationships that may help your family navigate the relational challenges that all of us inevitably encounter in our personal and professional lives.

  1. Identification and Ownership: The first step to restoring relationships is to identify the harm that has occurred and to help students take responsibility for their actions.
  2. Empathy: Next, it is important to recognize the impact of the harm that was caused. This piece is often difficult for students (and adults too, for that matter) to do without some assistance. It requires students to ask about, listen to, and reflect on the harm that was caused. While uncomfortable, it is an essential step to rebuilding compassion and trust.
  3. Restoration: During this step, students focus on repairing the harm caused by misbehavior. High expectations, clear norms, and boundaries are set. Amends are made at an age-appropriate level commensurate with the harm that was caused.
  4. Planning: This final step involves identifying ways to prevent similar harm from happening in the future. With guidance, students explore and select strategies and practices for managing emotions and handling difficult situations. Commitments are made and accountability structures are established.

Restorative practices are not a replacement for disciplinary action. Rather, they support students in rebuilding and restoring a sense of dignity and community, which when paired with measured, logical consequences, has a powerful effect on student success, well-being, and school climate.

100th Day of School is Wednesday, February 4, 2026

The 100th Day of School is a BIG deal. Students get to celebrate all they have learned over the past 100 days, and it provides an opportunity to reflect on our achievements and gear up for the remainder of the school year. While our youngest learners will have special "100th Day" activities planned to commemorate the milestone, ALL students are invited to dress up as a 100 year-old or wear 100 items to school as a fun way to make the day special and build fond memories of these elementary years.

📚Wildwood Book Fair — Feb. 2–6! 📚

Support our teachers and join us at the Literati Book Fair this week in the Wildwood Library!

All proceeds from the book fair go directly to Wildwood teachers to help them purchase books for their classrooms.

At the fair, you’ll also find bins with teacher wish-list books. Families are welcome to purchase a book to donate to a teacher!

Each class will have a scheduled time to visit the book fair with their teacher, so your child may come home with a wish list. If you would like to send your child with a gift card or cash to shop on their own, students may shop before school or during their lunch every day, or after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

You are also welcome to shop with your child before or after school, or during Cookies & Jammies Night!

Special Event:
Cookies & Jammies Night
Thursday, 5:30–6:30 PM
Enjoy a cozy evening with cookies and guest readers from TO High School!

It’s going to be a wonderful week full of books and inspiration, helping kids grow their love of reading. We can’t wait to see you there, thank you for supporting our amazing Wildwood teachers!

Calling All Grandparents & Grandfriends! 🎨♻️

Do you have a parent, grandparent, or special adult in your family who enjoys working with kids and getting a little creative? We’d love their help with our CREATE Program! Every Wednesday during first recess, students have the option to visit the MPR to design and build with recycled materials—and we’re looking for a few friendly volunteers to assist with simple cutting, taping, and lots of encouragement. Volunteers are needed from 9:15a.m.–10:45 a.m. every Wednesday. If you know a grandparent or senior citizen in our community who might enjoy being part of this joyful, hands-on experience, please pass along the invitation and contact the school for more information.

Help Us Retain Our Crossing Guard – Walk or Ride to School!

We have been informed that the City of Thousand Oaks annual school crosswalk pedestrian counts will begin on Tuesday, February 24. They will be monitoring our Arboles/Velarde crosswalk usage in late-February and early-March to assess the need for crossing guards in future school years. To ensure we meet the required threshold during the count, we encourage as many students as possible to walk, bike, or ride scooters to school and utilize this crosswalk during this period.

Your participation helps demonstrate the importance of maintaining safe routes to school for our students. Thank you for your support in keeping our community safe and thriving!

Visitors & Volunteers

My mother always told me "Many hands make light work", and that's certainly true in education. We want you on campus with us! All adults entering the campus during school hours must sign in electronically with their picture ID in the front office and obtain a visitor or volunteer badge/sticker to be worn at all times while on campus. All volunteers who work with students must have a current TB test or a Risk Assessment Questionnaire on file as well. If you would like to volunteer on campus, and we hope you do, please complete and return the Volunteer Registration Authorization Packet that will be sent home with students on the first day of school. Attach a copy of your license/ID to the packet, or we will make a copy for you in the office on your first visit.

Attendance

If your child will be absent or arriving late for any reason, please remember to call our office or leave a message on our attendance line at (805) 492-3531 before 8:30am. Be sure to state the date and reason for your child’s absence or late arrival, and your child’s teacher or room number. Any unexcused absence is counted as a truancy. Students are allowed only three truancies per year before action is taken. Planning ahead with your child will also help to avoid unnecessary tardiness. Students who arrive on time feel better about themselves and perform better in the classroom.
