Restorative Practices (Part 2)
Just like any healthy family, school, or community, Wildwood has a plan and process for restoring relationships when harm has been done. Just as students need coaching when they encounter academic challenges, they also need guidance for managing social difficulties when they arise.
We would like to share Wildwood's restorative process with you to make you aware of our school approach to managing conflict and to provide you with a research-based and time-proven model for restoring relationships that may help your family navigate the relational challenges that all of us inevitably encounter in our personal and professional lives.
- Identification and Ownership: The first step to restoring relationships is to identify the harm that has occurred and to help students take responsibility for their actions.
- Empathy: Next, it is important to recognize the impact of the harm that was caused. This piece is often difficult for students (and adults too, for that matter) to do without some assistance. It requires students to ask about, listen to, and reflect on the harm that was caused. While uncomfortable, it is an essential step to rebuilding compassion and trust.
- Restoration: During this step, students focus on repairing the harm caused by misbehavior. High expectations, clear norms, and boundaries are set. Amends are made at an age-appropriate level commensurate with the harm that was caused.
- Planning: This final step involves identifying ways to prevent similar harm from happening in the future. With guidance, students explore and select strategies and practices for managing emotions and handling difficult situations. Commitments are made and accountability structures are established.
Restorative practices are not a replacement for disciplinary action. Rather, they support students in rebuilding and restoring a sense of dignity and community, which when paired with measured, logical consequences, has a powerful effect on student success, well-being, and school climate.

100th Day of School is Wednesday, February 4, 2026
The 100th Day of School is a BIG deal. Students get to celebrate all they have learned over the past 100 days, and it provides an opportunity to reflect on our achievements and gear up for the remainder of the school year. While our youngest learners will have special "100th Day" activities planned to commemorate the milestone, ALL students are invited to dress up as a 100 year-old or wear 100 items to school as a fun way to make the day special and build fond memories of these elementary years.

Calling All Grandparents & Grandfriends! 🎨♻️
Do you have a parent, grandparent, or special adult in your family who enjoys working with kids and getting a little creative? We’d love their help with our CREATE Program! Every Wednesday during first recess, students have the option to visit the MPR to design and build with recycled materials—and we’re looking for a few friendly volunteers to assist with simple cutting, taping, and lots of encouragement. Volunteers are needed from 9:15a.m.–10:45 a.m. every Wednesday. If you know a grandparent or senior citizen in our community who might enjoy being part of this joyful, hands-on experience, please pass along the invitation and contact the school for more information.
Wildwood Talent Show
Talent Show audition sign-ups have closed. We encourage all performers to continue polishing you acts before your tryout this coming Tuesday (2/3) or Wednesday (2/4). Please be on time for your audition.
All music will need to be converted to MP3 files. Here's a YouTube video to guide you in how to do this. All music will need to be emailed to Michelle May at michellemay@conejousd.org in MP3 file format by Tuesday, February 10.
🕺✨ Decades Day is Coming! ✨💃
Shoe Tying Recognition
During the next few weeks, the principal will be out at many recesses handing out small prizes to TK-2nd grade students who demonstrate their ability to tie their shoes. Since success is a series of small victories, please be practicing with your young Tigers so they can claim this victory and win a prize.
Help Us Retain Our Crossing Guard – Walk or Ride to School!
We have been informed that the City of Thousand Oaks annual school crosswalk pedestrian counts will begin on Tuesday, February 24. They will be monitoring our Arboles/Velarde crosswalk usage in late-February and early-March to assess the need for crossing guards in future school years. To ensure we meet the required threshold during the count, we encourage as many students as possible to walk, bike, or ride scooters to school and utilize this crosswalk during this period.
Your participation helps demonstrate the importance of maintaining safe routes to school for our students. Thank you for your support in keeping our community safe and thriving!
