Birch Meadow Update
September 6th, 2026
Hello Birch Meadow Families, Guardians and Caregivers,
What a wonderful start to the school year! Our first two days were filled with so much energy, excitement, and connection as students and staff settled into a new year together. It has been wonderful to see students back in our hallways, classrooms, and playgrounds - and to see so many smiling faces!
A special welcome to our kindergarten students and families! We loved seeing our newest Birchie Bears at orientation last week, and we can’t wait to welcome them for their first full day of school on Tuesday. We know this is a big milestone for our kindergarteners and their families, and we are so excited to begin this journey together!
A big thank you to all our families for helping us get off to such a smooth start. Getting students to school on time, following our arrival and dismissal routines, and partnering with us around our school expectations makes a big difference. We know those first few days can take some extra planning and patience, and we truly appreciate all you are doing to help your children start the year feeling ready, confident, and connected.
We are off to a great start, and we’re excited for all that’s ahead! 🐾 See you on Tuesday!
Warmly,
Lisa Azzarito

Arrival and Dismissal
Thank you for helping us keep arrival and dismissal safe and running smoothly!
We appreciate your partnership. A few quick reminders as we settle into our routines:
- Arrival: Students should arrive no earlier than 8:10 AM. Doors open at 8:15 AM, and students arriving after 8:25 AM are considered late and should be signed in at the office.
- Rolling Drop-Off: Please stay in your vehicle, pull all the way forward, and have students exit on the right-hand side. Please remain in a single line and use designated crosswalks when walking to school.
- Dismissal: Dismissal is 2:45 PM Monday - Thursday and 12:45 PM on Fridays. Please do not park or pick up in the traffic circle; this area needs to remain clear for buses and vans.
- Changes to Pick-Up: If your child is being picked up by someone other than their designated caregiver, please send written or email notification. If you are delayed, please call the main office at 781-944-2335.
- Safety: Staff parking lots, the drop-off circle, and crosswalks must remain clear. Please park along the street when needed. And a reminder that dogs should remain off school property.
Attendance
Report absences/tardies to BMeabsences@reading.k12.ma.us OR call (781) 944-2335. Please give your child's name, teacher, reason for absence and expected date/time of return.
If your student arrives late you should walk them to the front door and ring the buzzer, then proceed to the front office to check them in.
Taking Care of Our Things
Our students have lots of places to keep their belongings - cubbies and hooks for backpacks and coats, and designated spots for lunch and recess items. We’re also working with students to take ownership of their belongings and learn to keep track of the things they bring to school.
Of course, we know that things can still get misplaced! Please help us by labeling your child’s clothing, lunchbox, water bottle, backpack, and other belongings with their first and last name. A simple label can make a big difference in helping us get lost items back where they belong!
Let's Get Reading!
One of the best ways to encourage a love of reading is to give kids lots of books to choose from! If your child doesn’t already have a library card, we encourage families to visit the Reading Public Library and get one. A library card opens the door to so many wonderful books, audiobooks, and resources all at no cost.
Here’s my niece, who is heading into kindergarten, getting her very first library card this weekend!
We hope you’ll make a trip to the library part of your family routine and let your child choose something that sparks their interest. Happy reading, Birch Meadow!
