Student Voice Committee
Nichols 6th Grade
Attention parents, guardians and caregivers of 6th grade SVC members
Last year we kicked off the Nichols Student Voice Committee (SVC) for the first time. Many of the current 7th and 8th grade students returned to SVC this year and we are about to have our first meeting with the new 6th graders. You are receiving this message because your child was recommended by a teacher, counselor or administrator for the SVC, then they completed the application showing their interested in joining.
Last year, the SVC did the following projects...
๐งก Period Equity Project - period supplies were organized/distributed to specific locations throughout the school for students to access.
๐งก Student Voice Box - 3 boxes were placed on each floor of the building where students can anonymously report incidents and make suggestions for school improvement.
๐งก 8th grade Legacy Project - ceramic tiles were designed by 8th grade homerooms to create a sense of community. These are on display in the first floor hallway.
๐งก ABC Countdown - organized an ABC countdown for the end of the school year (last 26 days). This project was based on a suggestion from the Student Voice Box.
SVC meets 2x each month
๐ 1x/month after school with all SVC members (6th, 7th, 8th grade)
๐ข Our first meeting will be Thursday, October 23 during 6th grade lunch ๐ข
If you would like to opt out of after school meetings for your child, please contact Ms. Dortzbach (dortzbachd@district65.net) to let us know. Your student will not be removed from the SVC if they can't attend after school meetings.
We do expect regular attendance at meetings, but if a student is unable to attend, they should contact an SVC advisor to let them know. If students miss more than 2 meetings without communicating their absence, they will be removed from the SVC.
Your student needs a signed permission slip to be able to participate. Please print and sign the attached form or email Ms. D stating you give permission for your student to participate.
