Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back! We hope you had a restful long weekend and enjoyed the extra time with your families. As we settle back into our school routines, we want to express our sincere gratitude for your ongoing support. Our students have been working incredibly hard, staying focused and engaged despite the chilly winter weather. It is a genuine joy to witness their growth and determination every day.

As a reminder, we aim to get students outside for fresh air whenever the weather permits. To ensure your child stays warm and dry, please provide them with appropriate winter gear, including snow pants, gloves, hats, and boots. If your family is in need of extra winter gear, please reach out to us—we are happy to help provide what is necessary to keep our students comfortable.

Grade 4 Performance: "Bring on the Snow!"

On Thursday, January 22, 2026, our 4th graders will take the stage for their performance, Bring on the Snow! Every 4th grader participates in this production, and they are currently putting the finishing touches on what is bound to be an exciting show. These grade-level concerts are a beloved tradition at Winthrop, offering students in grades 1 through 5 a chance to showcase their hard work while allowing our entire community to practice being a supportive audience.

  • Family Performance: 7:00 p.m. at Winthrop School

  • Best Wishes: Good luck to our 4th graders—we hope you have a "blizzard" of a show!

On Friday, January 23, 2026, we are thrilled to host a school-wide assembly featuring a new program called "Kindness Quest" by Prismatic Magic. We would like to extend a huge thank you to our F.R.I.E.S. group for their generous support in bringing this program to our school. Kindness Quest is an immersive experience designed to bolster our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) initiatives.

By diving into these crucial concepts, the program empowers children with practical skills for:

  • Social Awareness: Understanding and empathizing with others.

  • Cooperation: Working together toward common goals.

  • Responsible Decision Making: Navigating challenges with integrity.

Through this interactive journey, both students and adults will discover how these tools are vital to healthy human growth and positive social development.

On Monday, January 26th, thanks to funding and coordination from F.R.I.E.S, we will welcome Okaiko New England, a Japanese Taiko Drumming Group to perform for the students of the Winthrop School. This group has become the premier Japanese drumming group on the East Coast, and promises to be a performance to remember!

Have a Great Day!

REMINDERS FROM THE NURSE

Dear Winthrop Families,

A healthy reminder that Students should not come to school if they are feeling ill. This includes not only fevers, but also deep/uncontrollable coughing, diarrhea/vomiting, rash of unknown origin, and severe sore throat and/or headache. Please remember to use the Dismissal Manager or call the school to let us know your child will be absent. It is always helpful to send in a doctor's note if your child was seen.

We are seeing so much illness in the community as well as the country. Remember that flu can present with abdominal pain/nausea/vomiting as well as fever, sore throat, headache, congestion/cough, body aches. The biggest thing to watch for is secondary infection, especially pneumonia.

Students may return when they are fever free for 24 hours without medication and generally feeling better. The COVID guidelines are similar: Students may return when fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol/Motrin and generally feeling better, plus it is recommended when they return to activity to take extra precautions for five days including: mask wearing, physical distancing when possible, and good hand/cough hygiene.

Thank you so much for keeping your children home when they are ill and continuing to inform the school as we track trends. Please remind students to wash hands and cover coughs. Stay healthy!
