PLEASE JOIN US TO HONOR OUR VETERANS ON 11/11/24!
I wanted to take a moment and remind everyone that our Student Council Association along with CPT Mike Merolle are planning a very special Veteran's Day Event on Monday, November 11th for our students, staff, and community.
I want to encourage students, parents, grandparents, family members, and veterans within our local community to attend our Veteran's Day Ruck/Walk and help our students carry the American flag around the school throughout the school day to honor our veterans and raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Students will be allowed to participate during their Discovery Class Time on November 11th with a $5 Pledge or Donation. If a student has a hardship please contact Mr. Mike Merolle. Family members can walk with there students at school during this time.
What do you need to do to participate and help out for this worthy cause? All you need to do is click the link on the flier below and fill out the Google Form embedded in the flier.
In preparation for this event it is important that we have an accurate head count as soon as possible. Please sign up as soon as you came.
Success, Nothing Less!
Thanks,
CPT Mike Merolle, Student Council Association, and Mrs. Lindsay Lennon
This year, Ten Oaks Middle School will honor Veterans Day by hosting a ruck/walk event throughout the day on Monday, November 11th. Students, families, and veterans within our local community are invited to help TOMS carry the American flag around TOMS throughout the school day to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that helps wounded veterans across the country. You and your family can help us honor our veterans and contribute to this worthy organization in various ways. Here's how you can help!
Families, to help us, you can join us and your student(s) during your student's Discovery classes to help us carry the flag. Family members and veterans are invited and encouraged to participate! You can also pledge to donate a dollar amount of your choice every time the American flag is carried around Ten Oaks Middle School or you can also donate one lump sum amount to this effort.
Second, students, you can help us carry the American flag during your Discovery classes.
The entry fee for all participants in this event is $5.00 per participant. All funds raised will be donated directly to the Wounded Warrior Project.
To sign up, please see the Google Form embedded in the digital flyer above or, during dismissal, scan the QR code on one of the posters posted around the school!
Please help us honor our veterans and raise money for this worthy cause!
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Dr. JoLynn Prochaska on being named the 2024-2025 Ten Oaks Middle School Teacher of the Year. "Dr. P" teaches 6th grade science. She goes the extra mile to make sure that her students have all that they need to succeed. During her time at Ten Oaks she has served as the 6th Grade Lead Teacher and the Science Department Chair. She has also been the Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Carolina Forest High School. She is a very involved staff member, and she is always willing to share her time, skills, and talents with her colleagues, students, parents, and our school community. Dr. Prochaska leads with a servant heart and is always looking for solutions. If she sees a need she doesn't hesitate to take action. She is proactive while remaining positive. At the beginning of this school year "Dr. P" was instrumental in making sure many of our staff members became CPR/First Aid certified and that all our classrooms are supplied with fully stocked safety and emergency kits. We couldn't think of a better teacher, educator, and person to represent our amazing school this year.
Congratulations to Mrs. Teah Grant, our TOMS Staff Member of the Week!
Mrs. Grant is an 8th Grade Math Teacher and the Yearbook Coordinator at TOMS
and this is her 8th year here.
My favorite memory of middle school was shop class! We were able to build balsa wood bridges and compete to see who had the strongest design. We also learned pin-hole photography and was able to develop our own pictures in a dark room.
My advice to my middle school self would be... Be confident in everything you do! It is ok to be different, that is what makes people interesting.
Congratulations to Ms. Ashley Arthur. She is the My Horry News October Hard Rock Cafe Administrator of the Month! Ms. Arthur is a “Rock Star.” She is amazing. She works extremely hard and she is a great listener. She loves helping others and her smile is always so friendly. Way to go Ms. Arthur! Thank you to Mrs. Jen Levinsky and Brady Boyer for the nomination.
Tom's 2024-2025 Career Fair was a huge success!
6th and 7th graderS spent the morning meeting community members and learning about jobs and careers in our area. Thank you to all our wonderful speakers who came and shared their work experiences with our students. Thank you also to TOMS PTO for providing the breakfast for our presenters!
And not to worry, our 8th graders will be venturing out in early spring for a career convention of their own at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center!
Our TOMS Mock Trial team has been hard at work fundraising and developing their strategy for this year’s case. The attorneys and witnesses are preparing to take the stand!
We wish them luck as they head to Georgetown this weekend for a round of Mock Trial Competition! Good luck to all of our Silver Fox participants!
Good Luck this weekend to our Region Five Orchestra Students!
The TOMS Orchestra Program under the direction of Mr. Hammer had twelve students plus one alternate selected for this year’s Region Five 6-8 Orchestra. That is the most we have ever had in our 7 year history!
They will represent Ten Oaks and Horry County Schools Fine Arts at the Region Orchestra event this weekend at Myrtle Beach High School along with outstanding young musicians from Florence and Sumter.
Please join them at the concert tomorrow night 11/9 at 5:00 PM at Myrtle Beach High School!
