Principal's Message

Good Afternoon PLV Families -

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!! So much beginning of the year excitement for this school year! Students are learning new routines to help them be succesful, and making new friends. This week students started to brainstorm their Hopes & Dreams and creating their own classroom rules. All grade-levels started their first CKLA (Reading & Skills) and new Amplify Math units this week and teachers started implementing the beginning of the year assessments to provide information on how much the students have grown over the summer.

Ms. Griffith and Ms. Wingo started visiting classrooms this week to review Colonial's Student Code of Conduct. Each class will have a presentation to review PLV and Colonial expectations. After students have the presentation, they will bring home the Code of Conduct Acknowledgement form for Parents/Guardidans to review and sign. On the form, parents need to check one of two boxes: if they want to review Colonial's Code of Conduct online at Colonial's website, or if they want an actual copy of the book, which comes in English and Spanish. Parents then sign, under their child's name and return the acknowledgement to their child's teacher.

This week coming up is a busy week. Tomorrow, Monday, Sept 8th is our first PTA meeting in the library at 5:45 PM. Please join us as we learn all the amazing activities the PTA is planning. PTA also kicked off the Joe Corbi's Fundraiser on Sept 5th. Their goal is $3500 - and they need YOUR HELP! Register at www.ShopFund.com and use the Group Code: AWBJ8. Share the links with family & friends via Facebook, twitter, Instagram, Email and Text. Any questions, please reach out to the PTA at plvpta@gmail.com or call 302-561-9088/

Thursday, Sept 11th is Open House from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. Parents/Guardians are welcome to meet the teachers and learn all about what your child/ren will be learning this year. You will be able to learn about the CKLA Reading & Skills Units, about our new Amplify Math Curriculum, Science & Social Studies Units and much more. And even experience a little reading and math that your child will be learning this year.

This year, we want to be more consistent across all grade levels about sending homework home for students to engage in independent practice of reading, writing, and math skills that they learn throughout the week. We value your feedback as we start to create a plan. Please complete this

PLV Homework Parent Survey.

September 11th is also Fall School Picture Day by Barksdale. Order forms were sent home last week. You can order online at www.barksdale.com and use the ACCESS CODE: 12470IN (O is a zero and I is the capital letter I). This code is case sensitive and expires 24 hours after picture day. Prepay by Credit Card online or day of using paper order form with check/money order made payable to Barksdale School Portraits or EXACT CASH. No Change can be provdied on Picture Day.

**Safe Shoes Reminder: It is important that your child wears proper safe shoes to school. Shoes should be worn that have a closed toe and heel. Crocs, flip flops, sandals, slippers should not be worn. Wearing these kind of shoes is not safe for gym class or playing on the recess equipment and playing soccer, basketball, etc.

**Early Dismissal Reminder: NO STUDENT DISMISSAL CHANGES will be made after 3:00 PM. If you call/email/dojo message after 3:00 PM, your child will go home his/her usual way (bus, daycare, walker, car rider) These changes interfere with teacher instruction and student learning.

PLEASE make sure that your child knows how they are getting home: Bus, Walker, Car Rider or Before/After Care. Please send your child's teacher a Class DoJo message or call the Main Office to change a dismissal (before 3:00).

Morning Walkers need to stand by grade band behind the orange cones in the morning. The cones are labeled k/1, 2/3 and 4/5. Staff will open the doors at 8:45. Parents must stay with their child as there is NO SUPERVISION prior to 8:45.

Car riders will stay in their cars until staff come out. At 8:45, staff will signal to start letting students out of the cars. Cars that are only in the "Cone Zone" should be let out. Once all the students are safely on the sidewalk, staff will move one car line at a time. Once both lines are stopped, the staff will signal for the next set of cars to let students out of their cars.

You also may have received your access information for the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Once you do, you MUST go into the Parent Portal and add any Emergency Contacts for your child into the system, as these did not transfer over from the previous information system. This should be completed by Sept 11th - Open House. Also, please check to make sure the correct email and phone numbers are listed. You can update these as well in the new Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If your physical address is incorrect, you will have to contact the new Central Registration Office to update. We can no longer do this at the school level. If you need any help, please your this form: https://form.jotform.com/252254619385059

Kind Regards & Stay Well,

Ms. Renee M. Griffith - Principal

Ms. Tameka Wingo - Student Advisor

Pleasantville's Vision & Mission

At Pleasantville Elementary School, we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and joyful community where every student feels valued, included, and empowered to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our mission is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and character they need to succeed in school and in life, helping them become curious thinkers, resilient problem-solvers, and compassionate friends who are prepared for the challenges ahead.

Through strong academic instruction in reading, math, and writing, science and social studies as well as intentional teaching of empathy, respect, and responsibility, we nurture the whole child. We build a learning environment that feels like home, sounds kind and respectful, and looks joyful and engaging, where students and staff support one another and celebrate diversity.

Together with our families and community, we foster a school culture where every student is encouraged to take risks, ask for help, and persevere through challenges. At Pleasantville, we believe learning should be meaningful, kindness should lead the way, and every child should leave knowing they are capable of living happy, safe, and productive lives—ready to make a positive difference in the world.

Classroom Teacher & Staff Communication

PLV Staff uses Class DoJo to share agendas for the week, pictures, events and classroom stories of the exciting things that are happening in your child's class. Once connected, they will be able to send you direct private messages and you will be able to do the same. Admin and support staff (Nurse, SEC, Counselor, etc) will also be linked to their homeroom pages. Once the teachers create their new class page (the week of August 19th) they will send you an invite to join their class and the school. Teachers will then approve all connections.

PLV's School-based Heath Center is taking new enrollment for SY25-26

A school-based health center (SBHC) is a medical office located inside your child's school. Nurse practitioners and behavioral health therapists offer well-child visits, sick visits, vaccinations, and mental health care to students. Your child can get free, high-quality care, that's safe and convenient.

How much does a visit cost?

If your child doesn't have insurance, their care is free. If your child has insurance, the school-based health center will file a claim directly. (Note: No co-pay, co-insurance or deductible will be charged to you).

Who runs the SBHC?

Your child's school-based health center is a partnership between their school district, Nemours Children’s Health and the Delaware Division of Public Health. These three organizations work together to run the center.

Enrollment:

  • Online Enrollment: https://sbhc.nemours.org/
  • Every student will be sent home a Nemourse Wellness Center Packet the first week of school.
