It's May! Daffodils are blooming, the occasional snowflake still flies of course, and it's already time for Kindergarten visits and our 5th graders' Primary Years Program Exhibition, followed quickly by their week-long stay at Keewaydin Environmental Education Center (KEEC). The end of the year is a mad dash of milestones and special events, so if I miss a date in the newsletter, get it wrong, or you're wondering about the details, please reach out!

In partnership,
Nadya

1st Grade

The final months of the year are taking shape! As we settle back into our classroom patterns for the home stretch, first graders have been building with pattern blocks as they explore shapes and their properties. In spelling work, they are ready to explore-two syllable words!

This week first graders also practiced museum etiquette by bringing a stuffed animal for a Stuffy Museum, and talked about place-specific rules or expectations like the the library, places of worship, workplaces, sports spaces, and grandma's house. They talked through how are these the same and different to museum rules or school rules?

On Wednesday, they visited the Middlebury College Museum of Art as part of their Art Explorers program in a joint field trip with the Bridport K-1 class. They got to see Our Lady of Cocharcas, an 18th century Peruvian painting that we are studying as part of our new inquiry unit, as well as some other works inside and outside of the museum. They spent a lovely lunch in the sunshine with their new Bridport friends!

  • Educator Appreciation Week is this week! May 4-8!

We are excited to express deep appreciation to our dedicated teaching, administrative, specialist, and support staff members.

Family Appreciation Thursday - Family Appreciation, shower our educators with fan mail:

Please try to have fan mail in the mailbox by Wednesday for distribution on Thursday. A long held tradition in our school community is for individual families to participate in expressing their gratitude. Families are encouraged to express appreciation in whatever creative and personal ways to thank our amazing educators. Thank you cards, pictures, flowers, and baked goods have been delivered in the past throughout the week. There will be a gratitude table outside the main entrance with a mailbox where you can put cards, pictures, etc. Flowers and other treats can be placed on the table. Kids can also bring in and deliver them directly. Have fun with this opportunity to express our appreciation, and for all the hard work our school personnel have put in to help children to grow and flourish!

Laundry!

We have many shared winter items that have taken a beating this mud season. If laundry is your thing, grab a bag from the school, wash and dry it, return (ideally in a clean bag) and we will store it until next winter! Or until the next snowfall!
