The Sixth ScoopNichols News, 32nd Edition

Dear 6th Grade Families,

I hope you and your family were able to enjoy the long holiday weekend, in whatever way was most meaningful to you. Personally, I cherished the extra time spent with my children and loved ones. As the daughter of a Christian pastor, many of my childhood Easter memories were made in church alongside my parents and siblings.

As a child, we often don’t realize how special those moments are—but now, as an adult who has lost a parent, I deeply treasure every opportunity to create meaningful memories with my own children. I hope your family was able to make memories this holiday weekend that your children will one day look back on with joy.

Looking Ahead: This Week in 6th Grade

6th Grade Town Hall

We’re excited to host our next 6th Grade Town Hall this week! During the event, we’ll be recognizing 18 students who have been selected by their teachers as Students of the Month for March.

  • The character pillar we are celebrating this month is Positive Attitude.

  • If your child wasn’t selected this time, please know we still have two more opportunities for recognition—April and May.

  • In the coming months, we will be highlighting the pillars of Owning Safety and Responsibility.

These monthly celebrations are a great way to recognize and encourage the amazing growth we see in our students.

Earth Day

This week, we’ll also be celebrating Earth Day! Our science teachers are planning some fun and engaging activities to help students connect with the importance of protecting our environment.

Reminders for a Smooth School Day

Please help us by ensuring your child is prepared each day with the following:

  • A fully charged iPad

  • Their school binder

  • Pencils and other writing utensils

A well-packed school bag sets the tone for a productive and successful day.

Student Support

We want every student to feel safe, supported, and empowered to ask for help when they need it. If your child is experiencing any issues—academic, social, or emotional—please encourage them to speak with:

  • Their teacher

  • Ms. DeMari, our school counselor

  • Ms. Robinson, our school social worker

  • Or me, directly

We are all here to support your child and ensure they have a strong, positive finish to their 6th-grade year.

Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support.

Warmly,

Ms. Brunson

Assistant Principal

Student Voice Committee Voice Box Student Voice Committee Voice Box

This serves as a tool to report incidents and to submit ideas to improve Nichols. It is here so that students can give input about what they would like to change about Nichols. It is also a place where they can report any unkind behavior or bullying that they witness so that our student voice committee can assist in doing something about it. These boxes are located on each floor near the elevators. Students can feel free to submit a handwritten note into the box or scan the QR code to complete a Google form. The QR code is also in their Google classrooms.

Please talk to your child about the student voice box as a way to ensure that they know about it, but also it would be interesting to know how they plan to use their voice in improving Nichols.

Black SonRise - Excerpt from Week 3 Recap Black SonRise - Excerpt from Week 3 Recap

Greetings Fellow Parents and Caregivers,

Today we focused on three attributes of real men: accountability, integrity, and empathy towards others.

We began by reading about and discussing notable examples of those who reflect these attributes, as well as those who do not. We examined the consequences that have followed for both sets of men.

The Risers then reflected on their own actions and behavior. This triggered an honest conversation about how everything they do communicates. The choice to lead a life of accountability, integrity, and empathy towards others requires consistency and commitment every day. This path to manhood isn't easy, but is one worth travelling.

As always, thank you for trusting us with your children. We look forward to seeing them next weekend.
