High School - Creative Writing
This week students in Ms. Reid's high school creative writing class wrote original limerick and haiku poems. A limerick is a short, playful poem with five lines, a bouncy beat, and an AABBA rhyme pattern. A haiku is a short Japanese poem with three lines that follow a 5, 7, 5 rhythm, often capturing a moment in nature or a passing feeling. Please enjoy these pieces by our SBHS creative writing poets. Way to go Eagles! We look forward to reading more of your written pieces.
LIMERICK POEMS
There once was a kid in my class
Who ran too fast in the grass
He tripped on his shoe
His friends started to boo
Then he laughed and got up with some sass
- Keith Rogers
There once was a kid with a bike
He told people his name was Mike
He rode fast down the street
Rode to go meet and greet
Then he said, “I think I like this bike”
- Michael Wells
There once was a man named Dave
Who stayed in a very dark cave
He lit up a light
That brightened the night
And now it’s not dark in the cave.
- Majestic Hatcher
HAIKU POEMS
Waves kiss the sandy shores
Seagulls fly over the vast blue sea
Salt fills the air
- Majestic Hatcher
Trees move in the wind
Leaves dance soft in the air
Peace fills up my mind.
- Keith Rogers
Tall trees sway slowly
Cool wind moves the quiet leaves
Birds sing in the shade
- Michael Wells
With candy in hand
Kids smile on the busy street
Sugar rush delight
- Jasmine Holliday
The sky is so blue
The sun is so warm up high
I love the summer.
- Bryant Singleton
