June Newsletter
St. Dominic School 2024 - 2025
Principal's Message
How is it already the last week of school? When I think back to the beginning of the year and all the excitement of starting a new school year, it feels like it was ages ago, but also the time has flown by. It's so fun to look at how much our students have grown, physically, academically, socially, etc.
We have lots to celebrate in June beginning with 8th grade graduation on Monday night. This group of students -- the majority of whom have been here at SDS since kindergarten -- has been such a gift to our school. They are always willing to lead and serve as needed, and I know that they will continue to shine at their respective high schools. We will miss them!
On Move Up Day, the students will have an opportunity to meet their teacher for next year and learn about the summer reading project that is assigned. Mrs. Dasco shared a reading challenge that went home on Tuesday and looks like lots of fun. There is no better way to prevent "summer slide" than making reading part of your summer days.
Our last day will begin with school Mass, led by 7th grade, as they take on the challenge of being the oldest students in our school. We will end the day with a recognition program in the church, starting at 9:30. The vast majority of awards and recognitions are for students in grades 5 - 8. If you have younger students, we love to have you there since there are other fun moments and recognition of students at all grade levels.
I hope that we will see our St. Dominic School families at Mass over the summer. Starting in mid-June, the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturdays will be outdoors (weather permitting). Bring a lawn chair and join many other St. Dominic families as we celebrate the Mass together.
There will be a July and August newsletter this summer with updated information. If you ever have questions or concerns, please know that I am available by email or phone.
Have a great summer!
God bless you and your families,
Mrs. Maureen Covington

Tomorrow's Leaders Start Here
Each month, this space will include the students who are recognized for being leaders at St. Dominic School. After our Friday masses, Mrs. Covington announces the names of all the student leaders who have been recognized. She will then bring them a bracelet that says "I am a leader at St. Dominic School" and take their picture. Pictures are displayed on the bulletin board off the main entrance area.
Teachers, parents, and fellow students are encouraged to identify students who lead in worshipping, learning, serving, and connecting. These are students who go above and beyond by giving of their time, recognizing a need, and putting others ahead of themselves.

Serving Leaders
A school parent emailed to say that she would like me to recognize the following students 6th graders Zariah Palacios, Ari Ellis, and Julian Aeschliman, and 5th grader Nick Aeschliman as serving leaders. She wrote, “These wonderful students were eager to help me on Friday at the fish fry. I was signed up for the 5:30-7:30 shift at the take out window. Another parent signed up but did not show up, so these four students took turns by making sure I had help loading the requested condiments. They were very organized, and made sure the condiments were fully stocked for each order. We did not miss a beat. I did not have to tell them what to do, they just jumped in.
She also recognized 5th grader Kendyll Griffin and 7th grader Ian Lyimo who "were both consistent in making sure the cookies were in the bags and making sure everyone received their orders, even though they wanted to help with the condiments they did not complain."
Serving Leaders
Mrs. Karolczak recognized 4th graders Kamryn Cloud, Tiffany Ahy, Mia Rutledge, and Lucy Grabenstein as serving leaders. When they noticed a puddle in the bathroom, they didn’t just walk past it -- they took action. Two cleaned it up with paper towels and the next day, they investigated further and found a leak under the sink. Thanks to their observation and responsibility, the issue was reported and fixed. Way to show leadership and care for your school.
Serving Leaders
Mrs. Wyborski recognized 3rd graders Fiona Reinoso and Chloe Murphy as serving leaders. They worked together to clean up a water spill (not theirs) on the stairs during morning arrival. One guarded the spill to keep others from slipping while the other went to get paper towels.
Connecting Leader
Mrs. Bogart recognized 2nd grader Lars Hulme as a connecting leader. Each day this week he has come up and asked her how her day is going and has been very encouraging and kind.
Connecting Leaders
Sra. Calzado recognized Kendyll Griffin and Logan Gaines in 5th grade and Zaiya Zumpano in 4th grade as connecting leaders. Kendyll took the time to make Miss Prosser a get well video and Logan Gaines sent her a get well photo! Zaiya Zumpano has been checking in each day to ask how Miss Prosser is doing and asking when she comes back! What kind and caring hearts!
Learning Leader
Mrs. Iademarco recognized Evan Smith as a serving and learning leader. Evan offered to spend time after school reading with some 1st grade students so that they can practice reading aloud.
Connecting Leaders
A school parent recognized 4th graders Hilary Carcioppolo and Kamryn Cloud as connecting leaders. She wrote, “Tonight at Puppies track practice, we took a long run around the neighborhood. A first grader fell and scraped her knees and felt like she couldn’t finish the run. Kamryn Cloud and Hillary Carcioppolo helped her up and said they’d finish the run with her. They gave her lots of encouragement about her running skills. They finished the run together and all 3 of them were talking and laughing together by the end.”
Learning Leaders
Sra Calzado recognized 7th graders Danny Horvath, Taran Mills, Aubrie Porter, Quentin Johnson, and JAC Currid, who helped her and other students use the word art app in class. Some students were not sure how to download this document and they offered to help without hesitation.
Serving Leader
Mrs. Covington recognized 7th grader Brayden Longmeier as a a serving leader. During the band concert, Brayden, helped pass out the dress down passes and brought additional chairs in for guests.
Learning Leader
Mrs. Slemc recognized 5th grader Sam Manning as a learning leader. Sam has been creating puzzles for years, and he put together a puzzle book for his class. The booklet was created with ingenuity and careful attention to detail. Everyone loves it!
Connecting Leader
Coach Hudepohl, the Puppies track coach, recognized Himaya Means as a connecting leader.
At the track meet on Saturday, Himaya was in a long race, and toward the end of the race she noticed the girl in the lane next to her struggling and stopping. Himaya stopped running her race and waited until the girl caught up with her. She finished running her race alongside the girl while cheering for her and motivating her to finish the race. She made all the St Dominic people in attendance very proud.
Learning Leader
Mrs. Covington recognized Tyler McMillon as a learning leader. Tyler works so hard at track and had great success at the championship last weekend. He came in 1st in the 100 M, 200 M, and the high jump!
Learning Leader
Miss Mialky recognized 7th grader Adam Suster as a learning leader. Adam qualified for the state tournament for Power of the Pen and was down at Ashland University competing yesterday. His writing skills are amazing.

Bulldog Club Information
A Message from Athletic Director Treye Johnson:
Congratulations to all of our St. Dominic spring sports athletes on a fine season. This includes our track and field athletes, and our 7th/8th grade boys volleyball team.
Fall Sports Registration:
Registration for Fall Sports is open now and will close on Sunday, June 8. Families are encouraged to register sooner than later -- especially because we know summer gets hectic with sports, camps, family trips and holidays. Register here: https://www.leaguelineup.com/forms.asp?url=stdominic
As with previous years, we will accept registration for all sports that CYO plans to offer for the Fall season. These include:
- Cross country (boys & girls, grades 3-8)
- Football (flag for boys and girls in grades 3-4; tackle for boys in grades 5-8)
- Soccer (Puppies for boys & girls in grades K-2, CYO for boys & girls grades 3-8)
- Volleyball (girls in grades 3-8)
Note: we may combine kids from multiple grades and/or partner with other schools depending on the number of registrations for a particular team. In some cases, St. Dominic kids may have to play with other schools. However, we will not know which sports/teams fall into these categories until after registration is closed.
Fee increases:
While we try to keep our fees as low as possible, we did make small increases to our fees (both the Bulldog Club Family Registration Fee and the sport-specific fees) for the 2025-2026 school year. These increases were made in response to increased costs St. Dominic must pay to CYO to participate in their leagues.
As a reminder what the fees go towards:
- Bulldog Club Family Registration Fee is paid once a school year PER FAMILY, and covers gym/field rental fees, uniforms, equipment, tournament fees and other related costs.
- Sport-specific fees are based directly on the registration fees that CYO charges schools for teams to participate.
If these fees present a hardship, please reach to Athletic Director Treye Johnson -- we don't want money to be the reason that any child/ren don't participate.
Should you have any other questions or concerns, please contact Athletic Director Treye Johnson at st.dominic.bulldogs@gmail.com.
Thanks and have a great summer!
After Care Information
A Message from After Care Director Giovana Evangelista:
Despite the rain, our end-of-year after care party was a lot of fun, and it was great to see so many of our students enjoying themselves.
As a reminder, all key fobs must be returned by Tuesday, June 3 in the envelope we provided. They will be deactivited on June 4, and there is a $20 fee for lost fobs.
There is NO AFTER CARE on the last day of school. All students must be picked up by 10:30 a.m.
Have a great summer!
