The Power of Our Words
Dear Lower School Families,
“Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” – Ephesians 4:29 (NLT)
At Maranatha Christian Academy, we are deeply committed to cultivating a community that reflects Christ’s love in both action and speech. As we guide students to become Spirit-Driven Leaders and Gracious Community Builders, we recognize that one of the greatest ways we live out our faith is through our words.
In recent weeks, our teachers and staff have observed moments where students have struggled with using kind, encouraging language toward one another. This is not unusual—growing up is a journey of learning self-control, empathy, and the true meaning of grace. Yet, as a Christian school, we see these challenges as opportunities to come alongside our students—and you, our parents—in shaping hearts and habits that reflect Christ.
Scripture reminds us that our words hold immense power. Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” Every word we speak can either build someone up or tear them down. At Maranatha, we desire our students to be known for speaking life—to their friends, teammates, and teachers.
As we continue to reinforce this within the classroom, chapel, and community life, we invite you to partner with us at home in a few simple ways:
-
Ask reflective questions. At dinner or in the car, consider asking, “How did your words bring encouragement to someone today?”
-
Pray together. Encourage your child to ask God daily to help them “let the words of their mouth and the meditation of their heart be pleasing” (Psalm 19:14).
-
Reinforce grace. When unkind words happen, help your child see the path to forgiveness and reconciliation.
By partnering together, we can ensure that every student learns not only the power of words, but also the responsibility and joy of using them to reflect the heart of Christ.

X-Tended Day
If your family is in need of care beyond the school day, we invite you to register for MCA’s X-Tended Day program. This program provides students with a safe, loving, and Christ-centered environment after school hours.
In addition to daily care, students have the opportunity to join a variety of Enrichment Clubs—including cheer, robotics, LEGO building, art, and more! These activities allow students to explore their interests and grow in community with peers.
Registration can be completed on our X-Tended Day Webpage.

"Hi everyone, my name is Lettie. I grew up in Brainerd MN, and attended The University of Wisconsin -Stout, where I obtained my Early Childhood Education degree. I have been in education for 14 years, with 12 of those years at Maranatha. I’ve been married to my youth group sweetheart for 26 years, and together we have two wonderful sons, ages 22 and 18. I love discovering new coffee shops, traveling to new places, and spending time on creative projects.
As the PreK Director, my greatest joy is helping young children begin their educational journey in a Christ-centered environment. I am passionate about helping each child grow in confidence, curiosity, and their understanding of who they are in Christ—knowing that God has a unique plan and purpose for their lives." -Lettie Fundanet

CHAPEL HIGHLIGHTS
We were blessed to welcome members of the Color Guard as we stood together to sing the National Anthem and give thanks for the brave men and women who have served our country. Their strength and courage remind us of God’s words in Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Our veterans have shown this kind of brave, faithful heart through their service and sacrifice. We thank God for them and pray that we can also live with courage, gratitude, and a heart to serve others in Jesus’ name.
WEEKLY PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father,
On this Veterans Day, we come before You with thankful hearts. Your Word tells us that “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).
Today we remember and give thanks for the men and women who have shown that kind of love through their service to our country.
Thank You, Lord, for their courage, sacrifice, and dedication. Thank You for the freedom and safety we have because of their willingness to serve. We ask that You bless all veterans and their families.
Give strength to those who are weary, healing to those who are hurting, and comfort to those who mourn. Inspire us to live with the same spirit of service, courage, and compassion that reflects the love of Christ.
We thank You for being our protector and our source of peace.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.
