The latest news and updates from Riverview PK-8

From the Desk of Dr. D.
Dear Riverview Families,
Thank you to our community for getting your students to school each day and on time! As a school, our attendance rates are off to an incredible start, and a big pat on the back goes to our families for making sure our students are on time and ready to learn. While our attendance numbers were outstanding last year, we are setting an improved pace this year. Let's keep our positive momentum going!
R.I.S.E. Values
Great schools are built on predictable, structured environments. Through the daily routines our team has established, Riverview demonstrates that standard of excellence each day. Our team has done a fantastic job emphasizing structure, consistency, and routines to help create the best learning environment possible for each student. At Riverview, we align our school-wide expectations to our R.I.S.E. values: Resilient, Integrity, Supportive, and Engaged. Here's how we embody R.I.S.E.:
- Resilient: We are resilient by showing grit.
- Integrity: We have integrity by showing self control.
- Supportive: We are supportive by contributing to our school community.
- Engaged: We are engaged by showing a positive growth mindset.
Thank you for being a part of Riverview’s community, and this will be our best year yet!
Sincerely,
John Dumbleton
Principal–Riverview PK-8

Nutrition Services
Free and Reduced Application
Everyone should have received a letter from Nutrition Services about Free and Reduced Lunch Applications. We would appreciate everyone completing this as it helps all schools with funding. Applicants that qualify are eligible for benefits such as reduced or waived instructional fees and more. If you have any questions, please reach out to our nutrition services department.
26-27 Meal Application
For the 2026-2027 school year, the Thompson School District will provide access to free meals for all students through the Healthy School Meals for All program. This program ensures enrolled students are provided free breakfast and lunch, regardless of family income.
Although all students will receive access to free meals, it’s still important for households to provide their income information when requested. Gathering this information allows the Thompson School District to receive the state and federal funding we qualify for. These funds go directly to schools to help cover the cost of meals and support after-school activities and other programs for students. Plus, qualifying households may be eligible for Summer EBT benefits, receive discounted or waived school fees, etc. Providing household income information ensures you and your school receive all available financial support. ***All household income information is confidential and will not be shared without your consent.***
The attachments contain more information on the application, and instructions for applying. While the following pages may reference eligibility for free or reduced-price school meals, access to breakfast and lunch will be provided free to all students regardless of household income.
***At this time we are only providing lunch at Loveland Classical Elementary and Loveland Classical Secondary, breakfast is not provided at these locations.***
We provide meals that meet or exceed the US Department of Agriculture nutrition standards and Dietary Guidelines for Americans. This year we are also increasing our items from local farmers and producers. You can be confident your children are getting quality meals while saving your family time and money.
Use the link below to apply online, or you may pick up a paper application at any TSD school or the Support Services Center and return or mail it to 2890 North Monroe Avenue Loveland, CO 80538.

The 6th graders will complete testing during ELA on September 10th. To opt your student out of testing, email me at jessica.tarkanian@tsd.org. 2nd graders complete a series of short tests in classrooms over several days in October.

September Gifted Education News
From Our School Nurse
Now that school is back in, it is a good time to remind parents to be on the alert for head lice. Head lice is a common childhood condition. All places where children get together are places where head lice can be transferred. Clean hair and home are no guarantee that head lice will not find your child. Please take a moment now and periodically throughout the year, to check your child’s hair for nits (eggs), which can usually be seen long before lice can be located. Nits are small, white to tan particles found in the hair that look a lot like dandruff, except that dandruff is loose and can be brushed from the hair, whereas nits are attached to the hair shaft and cannot be easily removed. Lice are very small (flea sized) and do not like light, so they can be hard to find. If your child is experiencing itching of the scalp or you see something in the hair and are not sure what it is, feel free to stop by the health office and allow us to check. Here are some great resources for informational fliers.
Sincerely,
Health office staff
