Owatonna Curling Club News

It's hard to believe the season is over and the ice is on the way out at OCC. Thanks to all of our members for a great season - - and special thanks to the board, the ice crew, and all that volunteered to help out throughout the season!

We'll meet upstairs at Torey's Wednesday, April 17. We hope you can make it!!

Please consider giving back to the club by SERVING ON THE BOARD!!

There are 3 openings each year; terms are 3 years in length. Two of the three members that are up this year are looking to roll off the board and give someone else the opportunity. Please consider nominating yourself or a teammate!

Here's what board members do:

- Meet 4-5 times per year (additional meetings may be necessary if things come up, but we've been pretty regular with 4-5 meetings - - generally late August, late September/early October, once during the season, and early March as we wrap things up). These meetings are used to make decisions and plan for the season / keep the season rolling / wrap up the season.

- Contribute to committees as needed. ** NOTE: you do not need to be on the board to contribute to committees!!! Our committees are:

• Bonspiel committee (plan and coordinate 2-3 bonspiels per season)
• Building committee (monitor building needs, plan and coordinate upkeep)
• Ice committee (coordinate ice making throughout the season)
• Education/Skills development (work with youth program and learn-to-curl opportunities)
• Bylaws and Club organization (maintain bylaws and update as necessary)
• Membership and eMedia (maintain and update social media and website)

- Serve as ambassadors of the club. Help get new folks involved, help get OCC known in the community, etc.

- Use and grow leadership skills :)

We'll have a lot of work to do to put things away for the season once the ice finishes melting. As of today, it's melted down to the colors.

Please watch your email and social media for updates on clean-up dates. Duties are easy, and many hands make light work :) Expect to hear more at the annual meeting - we'll tentatively plan on late April/early May!!!

Congratulations to Clint Bettermann, AJ Kohn, Levi Newman, and Armand Orfei on a great spiel last weekend 😀 They were the first OCC juniors team to hit the ice in a spiel in a while, and represented the club well! We're looking forward to their continued participation in the future!! Good curling!!

We had 18 curlers join us for the first (annual?) OCC triples spiel! After drawing for teams, we hit the ice and had a great day! Thanks to Tricia Hoffmann for bringing the idea to OCC after having participated in a triples spiel at Dakota last year!
