Using Podcasts for Teaching and Learning
According to a 2019 study conducted by the Edison Research Group, 51 percent of US citizens listen to podcasts. Thatβs rightβ¦144 million people are tuning into an average of seven podcasts per week. And the largest group of listeners are 34-years-old or younger. It seems wise, then, that we in education look at what teaching and learning potential can be found in this medium. Podcasts offer a valuable way to teach listening skill, and listening comprehension lays a strong foundation for reading comprehension and makes sophisticated text more accessible for struggling readers. To get you started, weβve share three of our favorite podcasts appropriate for elementary, middle, and high school students. ππΌ
If you would like to explore bringing podcasts to your classroom, our team is ready to assist you with research, resources, and more. Please contact our team at haeatech@heartlandaea.org, and we will be happy to plan with you!
