Associate Assistant Headteacher - Mr K Reynolds

Dear parents and carers,

It certainly feels like Autumn is now fully upon us, especially with the Harvest Festival celebration this week. With the changing of the seasons and weather, it is important pupils bring a coat along to school so that they can make the most of the fresh air at break and lunch while staying warm.

This Week This Week

๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚ Harvest Festival ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚

On Wednesday, we welcomed Reverend Mark from All Saints Church in Pontefract to host a Harvest Festival assembly. The pupils sang songs and listened to a number of thought-provoking stories to help us all reflect on how each of us play an important role in protecting the environment. Thanks to your generous donations, there was a fabulous centrepiece of different food offerings which will be donated to Pontefract Food Bank.

Also on Wednesday, a selection of boys from Year 3 and 4 represented school at the Boysโ€™ Football Tournament at A1 Football Factory. After a gallant effort, playing five different matches, the team finished joint third on points and only just missed out on finishing in the top 3 on goals scored. Next week, it is the turn of the girls as they take on the other schools from our Pontefract and South Kirkby group.

Our Learning

In lessons, pupils continued to be challenged by teachers to stretch their learning in all subjects.

EYFS, Year 1 & Year 2

Year 1, 2 and Reception have been completing individual phonics assessments to support their development in early reading. Miss Jones has been very impressed with how well the pupils are progressing and is looking forward to this continuing across the school year.

Year 3 & 4

In Year 3 and 4, the pupils took part in a Roman day consisting of several different activities, most notably making their own Roman shields and re-enacting a Roman invasion on the field.

Online Safety Online Safety

Helping Parents Navigate Online Gaming

Online gaming is a popular part of many childrenโ€™s lives, but it is important that parents and carers understand the games their children are playing and the potential risks involved.

LGfL has produced a helpful guide with practical advice for families, including checking age ratings, talking about who children play with online, agreeing rules around spending and screen time, reviewing privacy and safety settings, and discussing what to do if something goes wrong.

The guide also explains that PEGI age ratings relate to the suitability of a gameโ€™s content, rather than how difficult the game is to play.

๐Ÿšซ ๐Ÿš— Parking ๐Ÿš— ๐Ÿšซ ๐Ÿšซ ๐Ÿš— Parking ๐Ÿš— ๐Ÿšซ

We have received a number of reports at school regarding disruptive parking at the start and end of the school day. This is a polite reminder to adhere to the parking restrictions outside of the school gates and opposite the school gates. All regulations are in place to keep you and your children as safe as possible during what can be a busy time. It takes everyone to follow these rules to ensure we are keeping the entire community safe so I appreciate your support in this area.

Once again, thank you for your donations for Harvest Festival and your continued support with attendance, behaviour and home learning. Have a lovely weekend.

Yours sincerely,
Mr Beevers

Wraparound Care Wraparound Care

Due to a recent increase in demand for our Wraparound After School club, we have taken the decision to increase our capacity from 15 to 18 children per day. We hope this will help out those families that need childcare either on a regular or ad hoc basis.

If you havenโ€™t used our Wraparound After School Club before, please drop in to the office to sign the agreement form.

The Club runs from 3.15pm-5.45pm Monday-Thursday and costs ยฃ12 per session (or ยฃ10 each for siblings).

Children can take part in games, activities, crafts and more! We also offer a selection of snacks and light bites for them to enjoy.

From next week we will also be launching our new Friday offer! Friday club will run as the rest of the week but at a discounted price of ยฃ8 for the full session, or ยฃ5 for a 4.30pm pick-up. This could be an opportunity for parents to get ready for the weekend, do some shopping or run any errands that need doing without the children there.

Places should be booked on MCAS by Friday of the preceding week, please give us a call if you need to book after this deadline and we will see what we can do.
