The beginning of a new school year is always an exciting time. Not only did we welcome back our existing Screamin' Eagles family, but we welcomed many new faces to Sunnycrest. Yesterday, we welcomed our kindergarten students to campus! We are growing and our classrooms are fuller than they have been over the past few years. Our teachers are working to develop strong relationships with students and to support students in building strong relationships with one another.

With our growing community we have added some new staff members to the nest. Please join me in welcoming the following new staff:

Mrs. Barnes (5th Grade)

Mr. Black (PE & Music)

Mr. Cage (SLP)

Ms. DuBois (Resource Room)

Mrs. Mott (5th Grade)

Ms. K. (SLP)

Mrs. Newby (Long-term guest teacher for Mrs. Llamas)

Miss Peggy (Resource Room Paraeducator)

Ms. Wieland (5th Grade)

Finally, on behalf of the entire staff at Sunnycrest, thank you for sharing your student with us. We are delighted to get to know them and watch them grow over the course of the year.

Morning Drop off and Afternoon Pickup Morning Drop off and Afternoon Pickup

Please do not let students out of your vehicle until 9:20am as there is no supervision out front until that time.

The Sunnycrest parking lot is ONLY accessible from Northbound 99th Ave NE. If you approach the school from Hwy 92 you will not be able to turn left into our parking lot.

Parent drop-off and pick-up is NOT allowed in the Bus Loop at any time. Parent pick-up only takes about 10 minutes once school dismisses, please have your student's name and teacher in the right hand corner of your windshield as this will expedite the process.

Navigating school drop-offs and pick-ups:

In partnership with the Lake Stevens Police Department, we would like to remind families of the importance of safe drop-off and pick-up procedures at all school campuses. With the district's growing enrollment, our school parking lots can become some of the most congested roadways during the morning and afternoon rush. We need your help to keep our students, parking lots, and roadways safe.

Follow these tips to keep things running smoothly:

  1. Slow down and be polite: Plan ahead and allow yourself extra time to navigate the parking lot safely. Be patient and set a good example for your child. Large cars in close proximity to children can pose significant dangers.
  2. Obey traffic laws and signs: Speed limits around schools are 20 mph, but drive even slower in parking lots. Drivers are not allowed to stop in the middle of the road to unload/load passengers. This is a significant safety risk. Follow posted signs and instructions such as “Do Not Enter,” “No Left Turn,” “Buses Only,” and “No Pick-Up/Drop-Off.” These are not suggestions—they are critical for maintaining safety and traffic flow.
  3. Follow the directions of staff members: School staff are present to ensure safety and efficiency during drop-offs and pick-ups. Please respect their instructions and follow their guidance for crosswalks and traffic flow.
  4. Consider having your child ride the bus: Buses reduce the number of vehicles in parking lots, which helps reduce congestion and increase safety. Bus routes and stop information are available on the district website.
  5. Carpool when possible: Share rides with other families to reduce traffic, be more environmentally friendly, and create fewer delays in the parking lots.
  6. Respect our neighbors and surrounding businesses: Schools often have neighbors, businesses and churches nearby. Please do not use their parking lots, driveways, or sidewalks for drop-offs, turnarounds, or parking. Do not block driveways or mailboxes.
  7. Avoid parking in fire lanes or restricted spaces: Fire lanes, handicap spaces, and bus loops should always remain clear for their intended purposes. Blocking these areas creates safety risks and delays for buses and emergency vehicles.
  8. Use marked crosswalks: It’s essential for everyone—students and adults alike—to use designated crosswalks and walkways. Jaywalking or walking between parked cars is dangerous. Always cross in marked areas to ensure visibility and safety.

By following these reminders, we can all help reduce stress and ensure the safety of our students during drop-off and pick-up times. Thank you for doing your part!

Cell Phones and Smartwatches

Many students today have cell phones and/or Apple watches. Student use of cellular phones is not allowed at Sunnycrest during the instructional day. If students carry a cell phone and/or Apple watch, the phone/watch must be turned off and be out of sight at all times throughout the school day. There is a cell phone permission form that families must complete in order for students to have cell phones on campus. If a student is found using a cell phone during the instructional day, a verbal warning will be given. On the second infraction, the phone will be placed in the office for parent pick up. Taking pictures or filming others at school is strictly prohibited for privacy reasons.
