Eagle News🦅
October-November
Dear Valley View Families,
Happy October! It’s hard to believe how quickly the first part of the school year has flown by. I continue to be inspired by the dedication of our students, staff, and families as we work together to make this a successful and meaningful year at Valley View Leadership Academy. Our mission is to live the EAGLE way by embracing the qualities of leadership, love, and personal empowerment, and our vision is to focus instruction to increase student achievement. Every day, we see these values in action—students leading with kindness, taking ownership of their learning, and showing pride in their growth.
This month, our Leader in Me focus is on Habit 3: Put First Things First, which encourages students to prioritize what matters most and manage their time wisely. We are helping students understand that leadership means making responsible choices, balancing work and play, and staying focused on their goals. These lessons not only support academic growth but also build the character and confidence needed to lead in and beyond the classroom.
As we continue through the fall season, thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we are creating a culture where leadership, love, and learning come together to help every student soar to their highest potential.
Warm regards,
Mr. Mitchell

October's Leader in Me Focus is...Habit #3 Put First Things First
“Work first, then play.”
Putting First Things First is about learning to prioritize what matters most. It means focusing on the important things—like your goals, responsibilities, and commitments—before getting distracted by less meaningful activities. Leaders who practice this habit manage their time wisely, set clear priorities, and follow through on their plans.
This habit teaches us that success doesn’t come from doing everything at once, but from doing the right things in the right order. Whether it’s finishing homework before playing games, preparing for a big project ahead of time, or choosing to help others before focusing on yourself, putting first things first builds discipline, responsibility, and self-control.
When we live Habit 3, we take charge of our choices, stay focused on what’s most important, and make time for the things that truly help us grow.

What is IXL?
At Valley View Leadership Academy, we are committed to providing tools that help every student reach their full potential. One of those tools is IXL, an online learning platform that supports personalized practice in math and ELA. IXL adapts to each student’s individual skill level, offering practice problems that strengthen understanding, build confidence, and fill in learning gaps.
What makes IXL especially powerful is that it allows students to learn at their own pace while teachers receive real-time data on progress and areas that need extra support. This helps us tailor instruction to meet the needs of every learner and ensure that all students are continuously growing. When students use IXL regularly, both in class and at home, they reinforce key skills, prepare for upcoming lessons, and take ownership of their learning journey.
We encourage families to support their child by setting aside time each week to log in to IXL, celebrate progress, and discuss what they’re learning. Together, we can help every student strengthen their foundation for long-term academic success.
IXL GOAL: 2 SKILLS PROFICIENT PER WEEK
