Hello Scarborough Middle School Families,

SMS Maine Through Year Assessment Testing will be held on Thursday, October 15 for Reading and Friday, October 16 for Mathematics.

It is anticipated that the testing each morning will take place from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. If you need to have your child dismissed for any reason, please send in a note with your child to inform the office. Also, it would be very much appreciated if any dismissals are scheduled for after testing periods. Make-ups will be scheduled for students who are absent during testing.

What students should do prior to each test day:

Get a good night’s sleep.
Eat a good breakfast.
Make sure laptops are fully charged and their charger is in laptop case.
Come to school on time
Relax and try their best.

Respectfully,

Kathy Tirrell, Principal

Chris Murphy, Assistant Principal

SMS Music Program

A big SMS congratulations to 11 members of the SMS Music Program have been selected to perform in the Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO) Children's Chorus this season, directed by their very own SMS Chorus Teacher, Mr. LaBerge. Many of these singers were honored to open the Portland Symphony's 102nd season alongside orchestra members, ChoralArt, Greely HS, and our SHS Chamber Singers, directed by Mr. Mosher.

The singers were featured in the world premiere of Travis Ramsey’s “FIRE!”, a musical work that provides an auditory history of a key moment in Portland history: the Great Fire of 1866, and Portland’s rise from the ashes. Telling the story of the immense fire and the aftermath of rebuilding, it captures the resiliency of the spirit of Portland—Resurgam (“I shall rise again.”).

Our SMS singers in the PSO Children's Chorus will also perform later this December in Magic of Christmas, the PSO's largest concert series of the year, which regularly draws 10,000+ people over 2 weekends.

SMS Picture Retake Day
