Being Thankful

As we enter the last two months of the Fall semester, we'll be taking some time to consider all the people for whom we're thankful. We cannot do the good, human work of teaching and learning without remembering the unique importance of all the lives invoved. Here's to being thankful!

The State Plan for the Education of Gifted Students "Bites"

Grouping: The State Plan says that identified gifted students should have time each day to work with other gifted students, to work with their gen-ed age peers, and to work independently. (19 TAC §89.3(1)). TEA offers suggestions to what grouping of gifted students should look like in their Guidance for Interpreting the Expectations of the State Plan. According to this document, in order for GT students to have time to work together with their intellectual peers, gifted students should be grouped in classes with either at least 4 identified GT students, or 33% of the class as identified. Studies show that gifted students do best when they have time to work with other gifted students. According to NAGC, "grouping gifted learners tends to be the 'least restrictive environment' in which their learning can take place, and the most effective and efficient means for schools to provide more challenging coursework (Brody, 2004)." How does your school group gifted students?
