November 3rd 2025
A Message from Your Principal Team
Dear Washington Families,
The Teacher work day last Friday marked the end of our first quarter for the 2025-2026 school year. In the near future you will receive your students report card in the mail. Your child is receiving their report card that aligns with our state standards and provides important information to our parents.
We evaluate our students on a 4 point proficiency scale that measures their progress towards meeting standards. In a proficiency model, the goal for all of our students is to attain a level 3, which indicates grade level proficiency. Only a small number of students may receive a 4. A 4 indicates that a child is exceeding grade level standards and is above level.
As parents, please celebrate with your student who receives a 3 and encourage your student who receives a 1 or 2 to keep working. We are instilling a growth mindset in our students. One recommended way to talk to your student would be, “you haven’t achieved proficiency yet, but I know you can. How can we work together to help you grow in this area?”
If you have any questions about your student’s progress, please contact the classroom teacher.
Go Eagles! 🦅
Warmly,
Alfredo Belanger, Principal
Antonio Ramos, Asst. Principal

YouthTruth Survey
As of 11/2 we have only heard from 6% of our families.
Families, I am writing to ask you for ~15 minutes of your time to complete an online survey that will help us improve your child’s school. We have asked YouthTruth – a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the country – to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf.
Please take the survey before it closes at midnight on November 21st by clicking the link below! The survey is available in English, Spanish, and Russian.
Please note:
The survey takes about 15 minutes and needs to be completed in one sitting.
We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.
If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child at Washington.
If you write any comments, please do not include your name in your answers or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.
We sincerely thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly valuable to us.
If you have any questions about the survey, or our plans for how we will use your feedback, please contact me at abelanger@woodburnsd.org, or call the school at (971)-983-3050. We look forward to hearing from you, and we will share the results with families as soon as we receive results!
Spirit Week at Washington Elementary!
A big thank you to all our students and families for making Spirit Week such a fun success! From cozy Pajama Day on Monday, to Black and Orange Day, Favorite Sweater Day, and all the creative Costumes on Thursday, our hallways were full of color, laughter, and school pride. We loved seeing everyone’s enthusiasm all week long! More pictures on our School's Facebook page.
Dia de los muertos Celebration
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Día de los Muertos celebration! It was wonderful to see so many students, families, and staff come together to honor this beautiful tradition. A special thank-you to our Belonging Committee for organizing such a meaningful and well-attended event, and to our amazing student volunteers who helped make it all possible. We hope everyone enjoyed the performances, decorations, and of course, some pan and chocolate!

Safety
Message from our Superintendent
As a district, we will continue to fully support and uphold Oregon's "Sanctuary Laws," under which no public resources, including school employees, may be used to assist with federal immigration enforcement actions. Immigration officials will not be allowed access to any part of a school building beyond the school office, and, absent a judicial order, Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) officials do not have the authority to remove a student from school. Our district does not collect information about immigration status, and if student records are requested, they will not be provided without a judicial subpoena. Student records are protected under federal and state law.
Family Resources - Here you’ll find family preparedness resources and videos as well as information about what our schools do and don’t do related to ICE and other resources. Each school has staff trained to support families with completing a family preparedness packet upon request. Please contact your school principal for support.
As with other potentially traumatic events, we have support available in every school for students who may be struggling. This includes:
School counselors, social workers, and school psychologists who can provide emotional support and coping strategies.
Home School Contacts and Family Engagement Specialist who can connect families with outside organizations and resources.
Safe and welcoming school environments where every student is treated with kindness, care and respect, regardless of background or circumstance ensuring that our schools remain places of learning, belonging, and hope.
If your child is experiencing fear, anxiety, or sadness, please reach out to your school principal or counselor. They can help connect you with the care and resources your family needs.
Thank you for your support in continuing to make our school a safe and supportive place for all students, especially in challenging times. We are strongly committed to keeping all of our students, staff, and families safe. Thank you for trusting us with your children and for standing together in compassion and unity.
