March 2026

The Paw PrintMarch 2026

Our Objective:

The PAW PRINT was created to showcase the things KO students are doing in core and Encore classes as well as all around our campus. In each issue we will publish student writing and art in addition to articles, interviews and entertainment.

Your school Ezine!

Welcome to The Paw Print, KO's very own E-magazine! Our Ezine is just like a school newspaper, but we will be fully digital. The Paw Print is a place where all KO students can submit their amazing work. We know we have lots of writers and artists on campus who may not ordinarily have their creations showcased, so we are here to give them a space to do that! Do you write poetry? Stories? Songs? Do you doodle amazing things? Do you create video content? We want to highlight what you are doing!

If you would like to have your work published, please fill out the google form! It must, of course, be school appropriate. Depending on your preference and comfort level, we can post with your name in the credits or we can post anonymously.

Each issue will contain student work, along with book and movie reviews, interviews, polls and information about the amazing things students are doing on campus. The Paw Print is about YOU, so please share your amazing creations with us so that we can share them school wide! Our goal is to publish monthly, but we cannot do that without your submissions.

Please follow us on Instagram @thepawprintezine to know when the latest issue will drop! You can access our website from the KO website homepage under the Students tab or click here: https://sites.google.com/nv.ccsd.net/ezine/home

Thank you! We look forward to showing off your amazing talent!

Mrs. O'Brien and The Paw Print staff

How do you make an egg roll?

You push it.

A man walks into an enchanted forest and tries to cut down a talking tree.

“You can't cut me down!” the tree exclaims. “I'm a talking tree.” The man responds, “You may be a talking tree, but you'll dialogue.”

Why was the math book sad?

Writing! Writing!

To all the artists and people who put their work into the world, even if they just show it to a friend.

Amazing by Juliette Haines

You always seem to find a way to be amazing. Not just when you want to but everyday, in everything you do. Art is expressive and the way that you express yourself in it, is truly amazing. Huh, Amazing ….…. Wow. Now I have found the one word that describes you. Well, not just amazing. I’m sure there are other words to describe you, I just haven’t found them yet. I will though. Because I have to find more words that describe you. Because you are truly amazing. Yes …….. Amazing.

Growing up in Las Vegas by Anonymous

Love it, but don't hate it

I love Las Vegas, but I don't hate Las Vegas,

Here in Vegas, the prices are so high that I can't even afford rice

There are police everywhere, so you'd better watch out

Here in Las Vegas, we have go-karts and learning museums.

But one thing I don't like is the Hot, hot sun in a land of sand,

Living in a neon-light wonderland.

Mountains turn purple as the day turns to night,

The Strip is blazing with colors so bright.

Along with the police, you can't even get grease

Here I am lying in bed. The clinking coins, a soulless sound,

Where silence can never be found.

While everyone is cheering Im over here clearing my thoughts

Everything is tied up in knots

Now we have a new president ¨ Donald Trump¨

I may be thinking, are we living in a dump

Or the news, it´s always ¨ donald trump this, Donald Trump, that.

I swear we cannot live with prices going high

I feel like I am going to cry

I like Las vegas But I don't hate it.

The Eyes by Anonymous

The eyes are something a part of the human body, A special organ that gives the humans, the animals, any living thing, an ability to see.

It gives the living organism a sight, something to see, out of curiosity it wants to see everything, everywhere, anything.

Curiosity kills.

The human who is born without a sight, is left alone to suffer, not knowing anything, no curiosity, no sight, no world, just black, pitch black. Their world is a mess. How will they find their things? How will they see the world? How will they learn?

Good for them, that’s a score. They wouldn’t want to see the world that they live in, they have their own area, while the world starts to evolve. Hope one day they will be able to see.

Yes, No, Neither by Aubrey H.

“Yes!”

“No!”

“I’m right and you’re wrong, so do not speak.”

“My word is the Law! You will follow my lead.”

WAR

HUNGER

HATE

CRUELTY

FEAR

AGONY

PAIN

LAW

This is how our world has been manufactured from the start of time.

Stop!

Enough! Listen!

Why can’t we all be right?

Why can’t we believe what we want without Hate?

Why can’t we live alongside one another?

Why must we be considered so different?

“Shut up!” “Shut up!”

“You know nothing of life.

I am the power.

I know who controls the Law.”

But why?

Why must we follow only one opinion of the Law?

Why must we only find our answers in War?

Why must we be so Cruel to one another

when we all function the same?

Why do we only have the Hunger for Pain?

Why must trying to be yourself inflict so much Fear?

Why do we Hate people who believe in something different

or nothing at all?

Why do we bring our world so much Agony?

“Shut up!” “Shut up!”

“You are a child. You know nothing, so do not speak.

I am the wise.

You will listen to me, and once you have some years on you

then you may speak.”

But…

Why?

Talk to the Paw! Talk to the Paw!

How should I prepare for having to leave my friends when I go to high school? I'm terrible at keeping contact when I don't see people in person, and I'm even worse at making plans to see said people.

What you can do is if they have a phone you can call them and text them every once in a while but don't do it everyday so that you don't bother them. But if they don’t have a phone then during school you can make plans to go to a park or you can make your guy’s parents get along and then go to hang outs at your house or your friends.

What are some fun things I can do over spring break so I don’t get bored?

One thing you can do is if you and your family like to take trips you can take a short trip to anywhere you like. You can also chill in your room or you can go out to the park if you have a dog. You can also just go shopping and prepare for the next quarter. Hang out with your friends, start a new hobby, and always go outside. Find something that interests you!

Love Untangled

Love Untangled

By Namkoong Sun and written by Ji Chun-hee and Wang Doo-ri.

Produced by Bombaramfilm

Love Untangled is a Korean coming-of-age romance set in the late 90’s about a girl named Park Se-ri, a loud, cheerful high school girl who is super insecure about her big curly hair. She has a crush on Kim Hyun whom all the girls at her school like. She is convinced that if she could fix her curly, frizzy hair, then he might finally like her back. Along the way, she meets a transfer student, Han Yoon-seok, whose mom works at a salon where he sometimes works. Through the movie, Se-ri realizes that her curls aren't so bad after all and that she doesn't need to change herself for a guy to like her back.

I rate Love Untangled a million out of ten. It felt so nice seeing someone with fizzy hair like me. I felt very connected to Se-ri in the way she would act and even just do anything made me feel seen. Overall, the movie is just amazing since it's not only a romance, but it's a comedy, and it has a nice slow burn, which is so nice after seeing a ton of fast-paced romances. I feel like if you like rom-coms, this is definitely the movie for you, not just that, but if you just want a cute little love story, not only that, but Se-ri has a big group of helpful friends, so I would recommend this to big groups of loving friends.

The History if Volleyball by Joshua

Volleyball was invented by WIliam G. Morgan at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1895 as a less straining and low impact version of basketball and had its first official game in 1896 at Springfield College. Volleyball has had a lot of changes through the years. Originally it was called mintonette. Volleyball has faced changes in its playing and rules, such as in 1916 in the Philippines where setting and spiking was invented or in 1998 when the position of Libero was invented as a defensive specialist. It even became an olympic sport in 1964. Volleyball has evolved from its slow start to a fast paced and high intensity game. Do you like volleyball? Come cheer on our teams at our home games this season!

Teacher Times by Charlie Teacher Times by Charlie

Teacher Times will feature new teachers each issue talking about their experiences at and memories of their time at KO.

Ms. Cuchon

Stepping off the plane in July 2023, I felt a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation. It was my first time in the United States, and I was about to begin my first year at KO Knudson Academy of the Arts as a part of the Cultural Exchange Program. Coming from the Philippines with five years of teaching experience, I expected challenges. Still, nothing fully prepared me for the culture shock, the new educational system, and the unfamiliar rhythms of life in a new country. Every day felt like stepping into uncharted territory, yet each challenge was an opportunity to grow.

One of the most defining moments of my journey came when I began teaching eighth-grade students for the first time. I had previously taught high school and senior high school, and I initially approached middle school with both apprehension and humility. Their energy, curiosity, and unique perspectives pushed me to rethink my strategies and stretch my creativity. Through patience, reflection, and a willingness to adapt, I found ways to connect with my students, build trust, and foster a classroom where learning felt meaningful. This experience strengthened my flexibility as an educator and deepened my appreciation for the relationship that form the foundation of effective teaching.

The warmth and support of the KO community made all the difference. From day one, colleagues and students welcomed me, helping me navigate the challenges of a new country and a new school. Having a fellow Filipino colleague added an extra layer of comfort and connection, gained confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging. KO is more than a workplace; it is a community that celebrates diversity, nurtures creativity, and encourages continuous individuals.

Every day in the classroom is a reminder that growth is not just about mastering formulas or solving problems; it is about discovering what we are capable of when we embrace challenges with an open heart and a determined mind. My journey from the Philippines to KO Knudson Academy of the Arts has taught me that stepping beyond borders, whether geographic, cultural, or personal, can transform both our professional and personal selves. In guiding my students, I am constantly reminded that true growth happens when we believe in our potential and commit to reaching beyond what we thought possible.

Mr. Barnes

A specific, defining moment or memory.

One of my favorite memories is 6th grade orientation—meeting our new students and seeing their excitement as they begin their journey in the KO family. From the very start, they show such love and respect, and it’s always inspiring to witness their enthusiasm and positive energy.

How have you grown as a teacher during your time here?

I have grown as a teacher by learning to meet students where they are. Middle school is a time of tremendous change, and students are navigating many personal and academic transitions. While recognizing the challenges they face, I remain committed to helping them build the skills they will need for the future—developing a strong work ethic, practicing the Golden Rule, and understanding that we are all working together toward a common goal.

What makes the community at KO special to you?

The KO community is special because students are truly accepted for who they are. Being different is not just tolerated—it is celebrated. We encourage students to embrace their individuality and recognize that each person brings something unique and valuable to our community. It is okay to be different, because everyone has their own strengths, and we do not all have to be the same to succeed.

Ms. Davis

I joined the K.O. team four years ago, and in that time I’ve had the privilege of teaching 6th, 7th, and now 8th grade. I can honestly say 8th grade has my heart, and this year in particular has been my favorite so far. There’s something special about being part of your last year of middle school. You’re taller, louder, funnier, and somehow both more mature and more chaotic at the exact same time.

Whenever people ask me what I do for a living and I say, “I teach 8th grade,” I’m often met with horrified looks of terror, followed by, “Oh… I could never.” And they’re right. This position isn’t for the faint of heart. It requires patience, quick comebacks, the ability to explain the phases of the Moon for the 47th time, and a strong immune system. But I genuinely love it.

You know why? No one is funnier than middle schoolers. No one. The comedic timing. The side comments. The dramatic gasps. The way someone will confidently argue a completely incorrect answer with their whole chest. It’s unmatched. You are all experiencing so many firsts. First big exams, first real responsibilities, first heartbreaks, first moments of figuring out who you are. I get a front row seat to it all. It’s basically my own personal reality show, except I also control the seating chart.

Teaching science while listening to your daily dramas is truly an art form. One minute we’re modeling lunar eclipses, and the next minute someone is whispering, “Miss, you are not going to believe what happened at lunch.” I may not always react dramatically, but trust me, I am entertained.

I can’t say I have one single favorite memory, because the magic of K.O. is in the everyday moments. The collective groan when there’s a summative quiz. The cheers when someone finally understands a concept. The chaos of lab days, which are mostly controlled. The quiet conversations after class that remind me why I chose this profession in the first place.

Those of you who have had me know I don’t miss an opportunity to troll you, respectfully of course. Will I get in your selfie? Absolutely. Will I permanently change your name if you lie to a substitute teacher? Without hesitation. Will I spam your GoGuardian with science puns at 7:15 a.m.? You better believe it. Growth mindset? More like growth mind set your alarms earlier. I’m here all year.

Over the past four years, I’ve grown just as much as you have. I’ve learned to listen more, assume less, and remember that middle school is a big deal, even if adults sometimes forget that. I’ve learned that relationships matter more than perfectly planned lessons, that laughter builds trust faster than lectures, and that students will rise to high expectations when they know you believe in them.

What makes the K.O. community special to me, is the people. The staff who support one another. The students who show up every day with personality, resilience, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. There’s something powerful about a place where you can walk down the hallway and hear music from one room, a debate from another, and someone accidentally dropping a water bottle for the fifth time before 8 a.m.

As my 8th graders make their way to high school, I hope you take more than just notes and study guides with you. I hope you remember how to think critically. I hope you question information before believing it. I hope you stand up for what’s right. And please, for the love of science, no more flat earthers. I cannot emotionally handle it.

Most of all, I hope you remember that you were part of something here. You mattered here. You made your teachers laugh here. And even when I’m trolling you, it’s because I care about you and want you to succeed. Thank you, K.O., for four years of growth, laughter, and unforgettable moments. And thank you, students, for making this job the best and most entertaining one I’ve ever had. I am looking forward to continuing to grow here at K.O.

Graphic Design Interview Graphic Design Interview

Interview with Molly S. by Charlie and Axel

What is graphic design like?

Graphic design is amazing! It is an art form using technology to create. Instead of using technology to do boring stuff like math, I can use it to make something fun. It gives you a chance to make any and everything.

What made you choose graphic design?

She chose graphic design because she loves to do digital art.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

She gets her inspiration from the things around her like things from everyday life and TV shows.

How do you start a design when you have a blank page?

She usually looks on Google for reference images, or listens to music to gain inspiration.

What's your favorite project you’ve worked on so far, and why?

Her favorite project so far has probably been the Las Vegas strip advertisement, where she drew birds in showgirl costumes.

What kind of design work do you want to do in the future?

She would like to design companies' logos and thumbnails for famous Youtubers.

Can you walk us through the design process for a project?

For my digital art projects, I usually start by getting inspiration from the things around me. Music, news, and media helps me get inspiration. My goal is to be as creative as possible! Then, I start drawing! I usually look on websites for photos of real people, and use their poses for my art. I Start by “tracing” them, to get their base, then I design clothes to fit the vibe of the piece. I then choose a color palette to match the lighting of my background, and experiment with shading the character. I love to add small details in my art, like some individual leaves on trees or extra shading on their clothing ruffles.

How do you handle creative blocks?

I handle creative blocks by taking a break from the screens. Sometimes, I get so busy with school work my brain is stuck on being perfect and exact. With art, it needs to have the ability for the lines to “flow”. Art doesn't need to be perfect, and if I get stuck in that zone, I won’t be able to create anything. To avoid this, I take a break from the screen and listen to some music. This way, I can imagine what my next art piece would look like, and I get back into my creative flow.

How do you handle criticism of your work?

I handle criticism of my art by telling myself that not everyone has the same art taste as me. Everyone’s opinions are different, and their way of perfection may not look like mine. Some people think that my lines are too jagged, and my shading’s all wrong. I accept their criticism, and use it to help my art improve, not shut it down.

Have you worked on a group project before? What role do you usually take?

I’ve never worked on a group project in graphic design, but I have in regular classes. I usually take on the role of organizing and designing the project. I usually create an image to help the viewers visualize and understand what the projects are about. This way, they can engage with the project, and make it not boring!
