This virtual workshop provides educators with a collaborative opportunity to deepen their understanding of the formative assessment process and develop English Language Arts (ELA) instructional resources.
- ODE is seeking experienced kindergarten through high school educators in ELA to participate. Educators will collaborate to create instructional resources aligned to the Oregon Statewide Assessment System (OSAS) assessment.
- Participants will receive $300 for each accepted resource they write, and professional development units may be available based on local policies.

Nominations Open: Oregon Mathematics Education Advisory Group
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) invite nominations for the inaugural Oregon Mathematics Education Advisory Group.
Beginning in December 2026, the advisory group will bring together mathematics educators and partners from across Oregon to strengthen coordination, inform state leadership, and support a shared vision for mathematics education from early learning through higher education. Members will review data, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide recommendations that support students' mathematical learning and future pathways. They are seeking current or former mathematics educators who represent the many communities. Learn more and nominate yourself or a colleague.
AI Search Is Making Information Literacy Problems Worse
In tests with accounts set up as 11- and 15-year-olds, AI search systems missed self-harm signals, validated disordered eating, and completed homework with almost no resistance. Across repeated history questions, the report found materially different answers nearly half the time.
Adults may see a student move quickly through a device and mistake speed for skill. A kid can find a video, download an app, and locate the answer key in mere seconds. None of that tells us whether they can identify the author of a claim, understand why it was made, or check whether it holds up.
In many classrooms and other instances, search is treated as an information-retrieval exercise. Type some words. Get an answer. Move on. Search is a critical-thinking exercise, not simply an answer-seeking event. Even a student who writes a decent query and reaches a promising first page still has to decide which source deserves attention, what evidence supports it, and whether the answer actually fits the question.
