Lauren Buehler named Most Outstanding Wrestler
On Saturday, December 16, the Whitewater Girls’ Wrestling team traveled to Mount Horeb High School to participate in the first annual Mount Horeb Girls’ Wrestling Invite.
Whitewater had a great showing with the most girls of any of the schools participating and all wrestling very well. Of the nine girls that were competing, 7 came home with a top two finish.
Leading the way for the Whippets were Lauren Buehler and Giulia Ristagno, each winning their respective weight class.
Buehler had two first period pins on her way to the championship, and Ristagno also had two pins on her way to her first championship in wrestling.
Lauren was also recognized with the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award, voted on by the coaches at the tournament.
Coming in second place included Ema Aranda, Katie Rojas-Reyes, Atreya Wilson, Myia Cobb, and Marianna Kubicz. All five of these girls wrestled very well on the day, coming up just short of the championship.
The coaching staff is very happy with the progression the girls are making as many are new to the sport of wrestling. They are next in action when they travel to East Troy to compete against New Berlin.
Great job Lauren!
Waffles with Santa
National Honor Society members Makayla Bazeley, Carley Boudreau, Danielle DePorter, Emerson Ellenwood, Kayla Mikos and Sophia Garcia volunteered at the Waffles with Santa fundraiser for Lakeland School in Elkhorn on Saturday, December 9. A great time was had by all!
Lyon Sets Single Game Scoring Record
Sophomore Casey Lyon broke the boys' basketball single game scoring school record Friday night against East Troy at Whitewater High School. Casey made 18 of 19 free throws and seven 3-pointers and scored 47 points!
The previous single game record was held by Hugh Gnatzig, who scored 46 points against Whitefish Bay in a playoff game in 1970. Mr. Gnatzig still holds the WHS career scoring record with 1,608 points.
In addition to the scoring record, the Whippets got their first win [84-76] over East Troy since the 2004-2005 season! (Photo courtesy of of Bob Mischka)

Driver's Education update
Governor Evers signed Act 86 into law on 12/6/2023 establishing a grant program that will cover the cost of qualifying individual’s classroom or behind-the-wheel (or both).
Over the next several months, DMV will develop and communicate the application process, rules/policies/qualifications as well as the method for which the funds will be distributed to the training providers. We’re currently planning to begin accepting applications for grant funds in the Summer of 2024, once our program development is complete and the grant funds are made available to DMV.
You can check our website wisconsindot.gov for more information when it becomes available.
Please contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
All questions regarding the scholarship program should be directed to dotdrvrtrnschool@dot.wi.gov including questions from parents/guardians and students.
