We have had a strong start to the new semester as students and staff returned in January. While winter weather created some recent disruptions, our campuses are back in full swing and have started the month of February with momentum and focus.

Across the district, we are seeing meaningful progress in learning as our teams continue to closely monitor student growth and refine instructional practices to ensure every student is learning at the highest levels and striving for excellence.

We are proud of the resilience shown by our students and staff and grateful for the continued partnership of our families as we move forward together into the spring semester. Our students and staff continue to soar in achievements and we look forward to a strong spring semester.

Argyle ISD continues to grow. We currently serve 6,587 students, an increase of 162 students since the first day of school in August. Despite this continued growth, our team remains committed to maintaining balanced class sizes and ensuring every student receives the support they need to be successful.

The District continues to work collaboratively on the official Argyle Middle School mascot logo, featuring red, white, and royal blue. This semester, we look forward to sharing logo options and inviting feedback from our students, staff, and community members who reside in the East attendance zone as we move forward together in this process.

It is time to formally begin the 2026–2027 budget planning process. CFO Liz Stewart is working closely with district departments and campuses to launch budget priority discussions that will be brought forward to the Board of Trustees. Our first Board Budget Workshop is scheduled for March 2, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Last year, our staff helped prioritize budget goals in four key areas: staff compensation increases, reduced class sizes, restoration of campus student support positions, and maintaining a balanced budget. As we enter this budget cycle, we continue to collaborate with our staff and the Superintendent Teacher Advisory Council to thoughtfully recommend budget priorities that support students, staff, and the long-term sustainability of the district.

Election season is underway for the May 2, 2026, School Board Election. The terms for Trustees Sam Slaton, Craig Hawkesworth, and Leigh Ann Artho are expiring this year.

Candidate filing opened in January and runs through Friday, February 13. As of today, the following individuals have filed for a position on the Board of Trustees:

Justin Ford – Place 1
Leigh Ann Artho (incumbent) – Place 2
Frank Dixon – Place 3

Additional information regarding the School Board election, including important dates and filing requirements, can be found on the district website.

Saddle up and join the Argyle Education Foundation for an evening filled with community, heart, and hometown pride at The Reserve at Marty B’s. Every ticket supports teacher bonuses, student scholarships, and classroom grants—directly empowering Argyle ISD and making a lasting impact in our schools.

We hope you will consider joining us at the Argyle Education Foundation Gala on April 25, 2026. Event details and ticket information can be found at this link.

We are excited to host an opportunity for parents, students, and staff to meet Ms. Whitney Wheeler, the new principal of Scott Gibson Middle School. This meet-and-greet will take place on February 26 at Argyle Middle School from 4:15–5:15 p.m.

Ms. Wheeler is excited to join the Argyle ISD family and to become an Eagle, and we hope you can join us as we officially welcome her on February 26.

I recently had the opportunity to visit with Argyle ISD parent Katie Burwell, whose heart and passion for advocacy shine brightly as she continues to champion recognition of World Down Syndrome Day. In previous years, many of us have proudly worn our “crazy socks” on March 21 to celebrate inclusion and awareness, and Mrs. Burwell continues to expand this important cause.

Katie was recently featured in a Fox 4 segment, reaching viewers across our region with a goal of expanding World Down Syndrome Day activities to all four Argyle ISD elementary campuses this year. We are grateful for her leadership, advocacy, and commitment.

As we look ahead to the coming weeks, we are grateful for the opportunity to pause briefly and then continue our important work together. Students will have holidays on February 9 and 10, while our staff will engage in a virtual workday on February 9 and return on campus on February 10 for professional learning and collaboration.

Our next regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting will be held on February 16, with the public portion beginning at 6 p.m. We are especially excited to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2025 Argyle High School State Quarterfinalist Eagle Football Team and to recognize our newest Argyle ISD Police Department officers and K9 unit—both moments that reflect the pride and strength of our Argyle community.

This spring brings great anticipation as we continue preparing for the opening of Scott Gibson Middle School and the district’s transition to two middle schools in Argyle ISD. These milestones mark an exciting chapter for our students, staff, and families, and we look forward to sharing more as we move ahead together.

As we close, thank you for your continued support and patience during last week’s winter weather storm. It is during moments like these that true partnership and collaboration are most clearly demonstrated, and we are grateful for our Argyle ISD community.

A special thank you goes to our Maintenance & Operations Department, who worked tirelessly on campuses despite extremely challenging conditions. Even as the elements worked against them, their commitment never wavered—at times facing more than four inches of solid ice across parking lots and walkways.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Pogue Construction for their partnership and support. Beginning Thursday of last week, their crews and equipment were deployed to assist with clearing campus parking lots and sidewalks, helping us safely return to normal operations.

We are thankful for the teamwork, dedication, and care shown across our district, and we appreciate the collective effort that keeps our students and staff safe.
