5th Grade Weekly Newsletter
August 17-21
What's Happening This Week
Reading & Writing
Students will continue building strong reading and writing habits as we establish routines and expectations for the year. We’ll focus on developing stamina, engaging thoughtfully with texts, and strengthening our skills as readers and writers.
Math
Students will explore place value and revisit the standard algorithms for multiplication and division. We’ll focus on building accuracy, fluency, and strong number sense.
Science
Students will begin investigating the physical properties of matter, using observations and hands-on learning to describe, compare, and classify different materials.
Social Studies
Students will strengthen their geography and map skills by using map elements to locate places, determine direction, and measure distance. They will compare different types of maps, explore the characteristics of U.S. regions, and locate and identify major physical features of the United States.
💙 We’re excited to continue building strong routines, curiosity, and confidence as we settle into another great week of 5th grade!
This Week's Learner Spotlight: ELAR
This week in ELAR we had the best time getting know each other with our Me Museum! Students shared pictures of the people, places, pets, activities, and things that are special to them. We loved learning a little more about what makes each student unique! 💛
