"Destination: Success" "Destination: Success"

Message from Mrs. Jorgensen Message from Mrs. Jorgensen

Dear Wilson Families,

Thank you for making it such an amazing start to the school year! It has been so great having our students back in the building, filling our classrooms with learning and excitement.

This year, we are focused on helping every student reach their Destination: Success! Getting there takes all of us working together. We encourage our students to be at school every day and on time, work hard to learn at high levels, and make great choices that help themselves and those around them succeed.

This month’s ROAR Report is packed with important information for our Wilson families, including our school-wide mission statement, our “C” of the Month, Spirit Day and apparel store information, school play auditions and workshop details, Picture Day, Skate Night, United Way resources, Mental Health Screener Night, our school donation fee, free and reduced lunch information, choir, and other important upcoming dates.

Thank you for being such an important part of our journey. I appreciate the support you give our students, teachers, and school each day. Together, I know we can make this an incredible year and help every Lion reach their Destination: Success!

Wilson truly is the best place to be!

Love, Mrs. Jorgensen

Our School Mission Statement Our School Mission Statement

At Wilson Elementary, we have a mission statement this year that is simple, powerful, and something we believe we can accomplish together:

“We will ensure that all students perform at grade level or higher in each subject.”

This mission belongs to all of us—students, teachers, staff, families, and our entire Wilson community. Every person has an important role in helping our students reach their Destination: Success.

Students do their part by coming to school every day and on time, being ready to learn, working hard, making great choices, asking for help when they need it, and giving their best effort. Teachers provide high-quality instruction, monitor student learning, celebrate growth, and provide additional support when students need it. School staff create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where students can focus on learning and feel that they belong. Families play a critical role by making attendance and punctuality a priority, supporting learning at home, communicating with the school, and encouraging their students to work hard and keep growing. As a school community, we work together, communicate, and support one another with the shared belief that every student can learn at high levels.

We encourage you to read our mission statement with your student each night and talk about how they are doing their part. Ask them, “What did you do today to help reach our mission?” We can accomplish this goal, but it takes every one of us doing our part. When students, staff, and families work together, every student at Wilson Elementary can reach their Destination: Success!

Our "C" of the Month: CHOICE Our "C" of the Month: CHOICE

Each month at Wilson, we will focus on a different “C” that helps unite us as a school and teaches important skills that will help our students. Our “C” for September is CHOICE.

Throughout the month, we will help students understand that the choices they make each day—how they treat others, how they respond to challenges, how hard they work, and how they approach learning—can make a big difference in their success.

Families can help reinforce "Choice" at home by giving children opportunities to make age-appropriate decisions, talking through the possible outcomes of different choices, recognizing and celebrating good choices, and helping them learn from choices that don't go as planned. Try asking questions like, “What choice could you make?” “What might happen if you make that choice?” or “What could you choose differently next time?”

Together, we can help our students understand that they have the power to make choices that help themselves and others be successful!

A $35 Donation Fee per student can be made at SchoolCash Online or in person at Wilson Elementary in the office. The donation money is used to cover the extra costs for a variety of activities and field trips for students.

Before making your donation, you will need to create an account in SchoolCash Online using your child's student number. This number can be found by clicking on your student's name in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you need help locating this information, please reach out and we can help.

You can also stop in the office to make a donation by check, cash, or card. Any amount you are able to donate helps our students.

Thank you for supporting your child and our school!

WHAT IS THE DONATION MONEY USED FOR?

A portion of the funds are divided up and given directly to each grade level/ teacher. The teacher uses his or her donation account to pay for things like supplies and materials for lessons, resources for class parties and activities, field trips and other needed items.

A small portion of the funds are used to fund the following school-wide events:

*Toy Tower in the front office (students earn tokens to use in the toy tower)

*Birthday gift for every student

*Assemblies

*Field trips

*Field Day

*Rewards for citizenship

We try really hard to make this money go as far as it possibly can, so we thank you in advance for paying your $35 donation for each student.
