Dear Piper Families,
October 30th will be a special day at Piper. Children will be allowed to dress in costume, teachers will be doing some fun fall activities, and we will have a parade at 2:00 pm, classroom party after with dismissal at 3 pm.
In order to ensure that children get to/from school safely and preserve part of the academic day, we have established the following guidelines:
🎃 Students may wear their complete costume to school for the entire day. They will not be able to take it off and change into different clothes.
🎃 Students will be allowed to wear face paint or color their hair as part of their costumes. Students must arrive like this; they cannot apply make up or color hair at school.
🎃 Costume masks can not be worn during school, but may be worn during the parade.
🎃 Toy weapons will not be allowed as part of a costume.
🎃 Using fake blood as part of the costume is discouraged, please save this for home.
🎃 Shoes must be worn at all times (gym shoes are recommended).
🎃 It is preferred that edible items not be given out at school. Non Edible items like pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. are encouraged. Each child will be given a bag to collect any treats given to them by their classmates. The bag will be stapled closed and students will take the closed bag home.
🎃 Students are not required to dress in costumes or participate in the activities.
Please let your child’s teacher know if your child does not participate in Halloween activities. Fall activities will be arranged for the class. Students not participating in the parade will have an alternative activity to do.
If your child needs a costume, please contact Ms. Garcia by calling the main office or emailing ygarcia@bsd100.org. The students in OAV have collected costumes to share!
Kindergarten Exploring Seeds
Thanks to Ms. Paul for stopping by and teaching our kids a wonderful lesson called "All About Seeds," focusing on how seeds find the space they need to thrive (alongside water, soil, and sun). The students had a blast guessing how different seeds travel—by wind? water? poop? or by hitching a ride on fur and pants? Turns out, the answer to all of those is a big YES!
This awesome lesson took place right in our native plant garden, which the Paul Taylor family helped us plant back on Earth Day 2025. How amazing is it that we have our very own native plant butterfly garden right here?
Afterward, the kids headed out for a fun neighborhood scavenger hunt!
What a fantastic learning experience—huge thanks to Mrs. Jakubowski, Ms. Reynoso, Mrs. Paul, Ms. Turner, and Mrs. Tazic for making it happen!
PBIS - Fall Friendship Bracelet Making
This October, our PBIS focus is “Be a Leader: Reach Out to a Friend!” Students were encouraged to look for opportunities to help, include, and support others to earn special orange Bear tickets.
Ways students can be a leader:
Step up to help a friend (like opening a container or solving a problem).
Include others (if you see someone playing alone, invite them to join in!).
Look out for classmates and offer a helping hand when needed.
Use kind words and actions to make everyone feel welcome.
Huge shout-out to 3rd Grade for earning the most Orange Bear Tickets! They earned the honor of keeping Piper the Teddy Bear in their classroom for Unity Week!
To celebrate, all of our students got together with their buddies to make friendship bracelets.
A big thank you to Ms. Reynoso and Ms. Garcia for their incredible leadership in teaching our PBIS agreements and organizing such awesome celebrations!
Chalk The Walk
The staff had a good time welcoming students to school on Unity Day with messages of love, welcome and a reminder that it is better to BE A BUDDY (not a bully).
Dia De los Muertos
In celebration of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), we will be creating a school altar (ofrenda) to honor and remember our loved ones.
We invite you to send a photo of a loved one (please include the student’s name and homeroom on the back, copies/not originals are preferred) you would like to include on our altar. Please send photos starting Monday, October 26th and by Thursday October 29th, so we can include them in our display.
Thank you for helping us celebrate this beautiful tradition of remembrance, love, and connection.
Veterans Day
Wednesday , November 11, 2026, Piper Elementary School will be holding a Flag Raising Ceremony to honor our Veteran Heroes. While all are welcome, we are sending out a special invitation to honor Piper Family members who have or are currently serving in the US military. If you, or a family member(s), are able to participate in our Flag Raising Ceremony, please complete this form.
