Falcon Update
Heritage Middle School-Week of February 9th
Letter from the Principal/Carta de la directora
Dear HMS Families,
The Valentine’s Day dance was a huge success, bringing together over half of the school for a fun night. Thank you to all of the families that donated items or their time to make it a success! We have one more dance in April that we can't wait for!
We had an amazing assembly on Thursday, and students who learned the dance beforehand even took the stage to perform in front of the entire school alongside the GenXsis Step Team. We will continue celebrating Black History Month by learning about impactful community members through trivia based on the posters and information displayed throughout Heritage. Please encourage your student to participate.
Congratulations to all the Heritage students who were selected for the District 100 musical, Matilda Jr. We can’t wait to see all your hard work come to life on stage.
All students who had perfect attendance last week will be able to dress down tomorrow, Monday, February 9th.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is available for families to take. Click on the following link to begin http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/. For the county, please write Cook and look for Heritage Middle School - Berwyn. The survey will be open until March 13, 2026, and we need 20% of our families to complete it. Please take a few minutes to fill it out; we greatly appreciate your feedback.
This week, the goal is to have perfect attendance. Those who do will get 50 PBIS Points, Friday Dress Down, and be entered into the raffle for a Canes free meal certificate. Any student who has perfect attendance or misses only one day in February will earn 250 PBIS points.
Looking ahead, please remember there is no school on Monday, February 16th.
Thank you,
Michelle Hauer

National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) - 8th grade only
We are pleased to inform you that our school has been selected to participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). The assessment is scheduled for February 9th, 2026, and will involve students in 8th-grade undergoing tests in reading and math. There is no need for students to prepare specifically for this assessment, as participation is intended to be representative of their overall learning. A total of 50 students will be chosen to participate, and we will send a letter to the parents of those selected with further details about the NAEP assessment. Please watch for an email titled "NAEP Assessment" for more information.
Family Resource
District 100 strives to ensure that all students and families feel safe, supported, and valued in our school communities. Fostering an inclusive and welcoming school environment is deeply ingrained in the culture of our district and is fundamental to the success of our students. Resources to support families with immigration-related concerns are available on the family resources page on our website.

Heritage Spirt Wear
Purchase Friday spirit wear by using the link below.
PBIS Rewards
We utilize an app called PBIS Rewards where students earn points throughout the school year for being Responsible, Respectful and Safe. We have a PBIS store that we open for students to purchase fun items with their points. We also do raffles, field trips and a winter extravaganza that students can utilize their points throughout the year. We encourage students to use their points by the end of the year as they do not roll over!
StopIt
This week, students will download STOPit to their iPads. This is an online application that Heritage students have access to. This application allows students to anonymously report incidents of bullying, misconduct or general concerns. All reports go to the support service team and administration, which allows us to act quickly and in real time to any concerns or incidents.
Breakfast & Lunch
Students at Heritage receive free breakfast and lunch each day if they choose to participate, or they may bring their own lunch from home. As a healthy school, we ask that students do not bring pop, energy drinks, or large bags of snacks.
Breakfast will be served each morning before students head to their Period 1 class. Lunch will take place at the scheduled time according to the bell schedule, and students will also have the option to participate in recess during their lunchtime.
Below will be where you can find the menus for Heritage through OrganicLife.
