A Message From Your Principal
Dear EWS Families,
We are flying through June, and the energy in the building is absolutely electric as we head into our final weeks of the school year! Our students are making every moment count with incredible field trips, milestones, and end-of-year celebrations.
Our third graders had an absolutely wonderful time on their recent field trip to the historic Governor Winslow House, where they stepped back in time to bring their history lessons to life and represented our school beautifully. Meanwhile, our fifth graders took an exciting step toward their next chapter with a tour of Furnace Brook Middle School to get a sneak peek at middle school life, wrapping up their memorable day with a special celebratory lunch outing at the Cask 'n Flagon.
As we continue our fun ABC Countdown to Summer, this week brought one of our absolute favorite days: "P" Day for PTO Appreciation! We want to express our most heartfelt gratitude to our incredible PTO, as we all deeply love, value, and appreciate their unwavering support. From funding enriching field tripsβlike the third-grade historic tour this weekβto organizing unforgettable school events like the Fun Run and Pizza Bingo Night, our PTO pours endless love, care, and hard work into creating lasting memories for our teachers and students. We quite literally could not do this without them, and we are so grateful for everything they do to make our school such a magical place to learn and grow! Thank you, EWS PTO!
Looking ahead to next week, we have a calendar packed with community fun and student achievements that we can't wait to share with you. We are so excited for our Pinewood Derby on Monday afternoon and know how hard our students have been working on their cars! On Wednesday, we hope you will join us for our wonderful Spring Celebration of the Arts, featuring a school-wide Art Show followed by our spectacular Spring Concert showcasing our talented strings, band, and chorus musicians. Thursday brings another major highlight with our annual EWS Field Day, where families are welcome to come cheer on our students during their grade-level sessions. Alongside all the Field Day fun on Thursday, we will also be recognizing and celebrating our wonderful volunteers and PTO members with refreshments at the gazebo as a token of our appreciation for your time and efforts this year.
Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful weekend!
With gratitude,
Ms. Bishop
π THANK YOU FOR A GREAT YEAR, EWS PTO!!! π

Nurse Update
Seasonal allergies (hay fever or seasonal allergic rhinitis):
- Occur when outdoor molds release their spores or trees, grasses and weeds release tiny pollen particles into the air
- Usually develop by 10 years of age
- The immune system releases histamine into the bloodstream to defend against these allergens and the release of these chemicals are what causes the symptoms
Treatment of allergies - no real cure for seasonal allergies, but it is possible to relieve symptoms:
Reducing or eliminating exposure to allergens- keep windows closed, use air conditioning if possible and change your air filter often
Remove shoes at the door to avoid tracking allergens to the rest of the house
Wash hands and face after being outside and try to avoid touching your face
Rinse off in the shower or tub before bed
Change pillow cases often during allergy season
If reducing exposure to allergens isnβt possible or is ineffective reach out to your primary care provider about available medication options(non-drowsy antihistamines, nasal sprays and eye drops)
Reminders as the weather changes:
Hydration: Please be sure your child brings a water bottle to school each day-preferably one that is easily refillable at our refill stations.
Snacks: Please remember to send in a healthy snack for your child everyday.
Clothing: Have children dress in layers-the building can become quite warm, and children can overheat very easily.
Sun safety: Sunscreen must be applied at home before coming to school.
Tick safety: There has been an increase in the prevalence of ticks. Parents should frequently check their children for ticks, especially around the ankles, legs, and head region after coming inside from any outdoor activities.
Attention Grade 5 Parent/Guardians:
Postural screenings(βscoliosis screeningsβ) are now complete. Referral letters have been sent home to those needing follow up evaluations.
Lunch Menu & Nutrition Update
Breakfast and lunch are free options to all students for the 2025-2026 school year. Please note, breakfast is available upon arrival from 8:35-8:50 am, however, students can also get breakfast during the morning once the school day starts if they skipped breakfast or forgot their snack. For more information, please visit MPSD School Nutrition.
My School Bucks is an online account for families to easily manage and pay for school meals, a la carte items (such as ice cream), etc. These accounts stay with students throughout grades K-12 and funds can be replenished when balances get low. Here's the information from the MPSD Nutrition webpage on how to set up your account - My School Bucks.

Volunteering at EWS
CORI applications need to be redone every few years and we are currently in a three-year cycle covering 2023-2026. All volunteers need to complete a CORI, even if you were approved prior to 2023. Please visit the Front Office to complete a CORI application and provide a copy of your license - it will only take a minutes. Applications are then reviewed by MPSD Central Office, which can take up to a week to process. If you have any questions, please contact Val Quigley (781-834-5090 or vquigley@mpsd.org).
However, to clarify, if you have an approved CORI from last year, it is still valid for this school year!
