January 7, 2022

Hello Lutherville Families,

It was a joy to be with your children again this week, if only for two days! I am so proud of how our children fell back into their learning routines and reconnected with one another.

I know -- as an educator and as a parent (of a child whose school went virtual this week) -- that these uncertain times are challenging for us all. The picture I snapped below captures our students leading by example in how we can all pull through this together -- helping each other where we can.

As you saw in a BCPS system message this evening, students will begin this week with two days of asynchronous learning at home. School will not be open for students on Monday and Tuesday. Attendance will be taken by tracking which students log into Schoology to access the learning materials. We will return to in-person learning at school on Wednesday. During this time, teachers will build structures within their Schoology spaces to support a change to virtual learning *in the event that were to occur* (there is no plan of that occurring for Lutherville Lab at this time). During these two days we will also be organizing and distributing COVID rapid test kits -- one per student -- on Tuesday. Given the difficulty in procuring these tests, I am glad we'll be able to provide some to our community. More information on these two pieces below.

Curbside Meals will be available for pickup at all BCPS Schools on Monday, January 10th from 12:00pm - 1:00pm. Meals are at no cost and are available to all students.

I know that in these circumstances and challenging times frustration can build. I want to continue to share my gratitude that throughout the various difficulties that have presented themselves this year, our community has been gracious, empathetic, supportive, and kind to our staff. Thank you. These times are challenging for us as well. We do everything within our control at the building level to keep children safe, support them, and help them learn well. I am truly fortunate to have such an amazing team and we are all grateful for how our community partners with us in our educational efforts.

The way forward is together. Thank you.

In partnership,

-Mr. McComb

Asynchronous Learning Mon 1/10 and Tues 1/11

By 11:00am on Monday January 10th, teachers will have posted a folder in the Homeroom Schoology Course labeled "January 10 and 11." In this folder will be independent learning materials developed by the school system for these two days. All the materials will be in these folders.

Attendance for Monday and Tuesday will be based on students accessing these materials (tracked through Schoology analytics).

To access Schoology: students should log into their device* and use a Google Chrome browser (They should also be logged into the browser with their BCPS username and password). There is a folder at the top left labeled "BCPS Links." From there, the first link is for Schoology.

Make sure that students are using their username and have @bcps.org behind their letter and number combination. If students don't know their username, you can call the school and we can share it with you over the phone.

*If students have left their device at school, there will be support staff in the building on Monday to retrieve their device and bring it out for pickup. If you can call on Monday in advance of arrival, that will help us locate it and bring it to the office in a timely manner.

At-Home Testing Kits

Testing kits will be distributed to families (one per Lutherville Lab student) on Tuesday January 11th.

We will distribute from the Car Loop (see image below) at the following times. Please note that the car loop entrance sneaks up on you if you haven't used it before! It is *just* north of the Heritage Mazda on York Rd. If you miss it, proceed up to the entrance across from the Best Buy entrance to enter the campus there.

10:00am - 12:00pm
2:00pm - 6:00pm

At-home test kits are not permitted to be sent home from school with children.
