HMS Student Council and Maddie's Promise
On Friday, May 29, HMS awash in a sea of purple as the HMS Student Council held a Wear Purple Spirit Day to raise awareness and funds for Maddie's Promise.
Over the course of the day, the HMS community donated over $2300.00, for this very worthwhile cause, and that total is still climbing!
As wonderful as it is to know that we will be making a sizable donation to Maddie's Promise, it is just as wonderful seeing our school come together and work towards a shared goal.
Great job HMS!
Grade Eight Survey for HHS Mentoring Program - A Message from Hingham High School
Hello eighth graders!
We are excited for you to enter Hingham High School this fall.
In order to support you with this transition, we will assign an upper-class mentor to you and a group of your fellow freshmen. This mentor will be available to answer questions, guide you through freshman year, and plan social activities for you and your group. Please complete this survey (linked below) so we can match you with a mentor who has similar interests.
Please complete this survey as soon as possible.
Thank you.
The Write Stuff
Ms. Cassidy's Block D class enjoyed hosting a special visitor, Alexandra Slater, who is the mother of Caroline Crowley (7th grade) and James Crowley ( 9th grade). Author of three novels, Honor Girl, Friends with Boats, and The Messy Years, Alex is also an award-winning journalist who received the Edward R. Murrow Award for Writing when she worked as a reporter for NPR. Alex graduated from Columbia University with a degree in English Literature and attended Northwestern University's Medill Graduate School of Journalism. It was an honor to have her speak to the class about her experiences as a young writer, journalist, actress, and novelist. We thank Alex for her generosity and time!

Bus registration will open soon for students entering Grades 7–12 for the 2026–2027 school year. Transportation registration is required annually for all eligible riders.
The transportation registration window will open on May 18 and close on June 18, 2026. Registrations submitted after June 18 will be subject to a late fee.
The transportation fee for Grades 7–12 bus service is $250 per student, with a family cap of $500 for two or more students in those grades. This fee helps offset the cost of transportation services and supports rising operational expenses, including fuel.
Grade Eight Civics Presentations
As you already know, our grade eight students are working in their U.S. History & Civics classes on an activity called the Student-Led Action Civics Project. The goal is for students to actively explore civic issues and develop their own civic identities. Students will work in groups to take informed, authentic action toward a sustained change they hope to affect in their community. This project is a requirement of the 2018 Act to Promote and Enhance Civic Engagement, passed by the Massachusetts legislature and outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
Through this activity, students learn how our self-government works by actively engaging with their community at the local and/or state levels. Students select an issue, research that issue and learn about systemic root causes, and then develop and implement an action plan to address the issue. It is important to note that topics for these projects are meant to be student-initiated and student-run, with the teacher serving as a mentor and facilitator. As well, a key part of this process involves students reaching out to decision-makers who impact their communities, such as elected officials, experts in their respective fields, and others with high civic capital.
At the conclusion of the process, students will share their learning at our fourth annual “HMS Civics Project Showcase” on Thursday, June 18th from 9:30am-10:30am in the HMS auditorium. We hope you can join us for this culminating event.
The social studies teachers and I look forward to seeing our HMS 8th graders realize their potential as active citizens.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Andrew J. Hoey
Director of Social Studies, K-12
