Message from Our Principal
Hello Mountain View Family,
Mountain View is back in full swing and nearing the middle of the 3rd Nine Weeks. We will complete MAP and Circle testing the first week in February. You will then have access to your student's scores in your Parent Portal. Our teachers have been planning and implementing interventions for the remainder of the school year and in grades 3-5 ways to prepare our students for STAAR. We want our students to be successful and grow as much as possible this school year.
Thank you for all you do at home to prepare the students to come to school to learn. YOU are a key ingredient to the success of our students and we thank you for allowing us to educate your child.
Until next month,
LaBecca Thompson
Principal, Mountain View ES

Counselor's Corner
Grades Pre-K - 2:
Greetings Parents:
We cannot believe that we are already in a new year! It came so quickly. We have had such a pleasure working with your students and supporting them this school year.
IN THE CLASSROOM
All students in PK-2nd have been learning about responsibility and making smart choices. We have explored choices and consequences by reading the book, βWhat Should Danny Do?β by Ganit and Adir Levy. This book allows students to help the main character make a good choice. We have also looked at what the consequences could look like if a poor choice is made. The students have been very engaged in the learning.
COPING SKILL
Stop, Breathe and Respond
Students have been learning the coping skills of STOP and TAKE A DEEP BREATH before RESPONDING. They enjoyed being creative with coloring the little person by making it look like a Ninjas, Superheros, or themselves.
Grades 3-5
It is hard to believe the 2nd Semester is here. This is a very busy time for our fifth graders. The pre-registration process has already started for middle school. If you have not already done so as a fifth-grade parent, please return your childβs pre-registration sheet which includes Side 1 Elective Choices and Side 2 Course selection. These sheets need to be returned to the Music Department at MVES. If sent back to the classroom teacher, they will pass it on to the appropriate music teacher. Please remember to sign both sides of the sheet and make any changes to your demographic information. It is also time to consider the STEM program at Nolan Middle School. Mrs. De Gracia, STEM Middle School Counselor, spoke to all fifth-grade students and parents who attended the assembly. The students can request an application from me to take home to be filled out and returned to me no later than 5 March. If you have any questions, please contact me by email or phone 254 336-1915.
Our fourth graders are still putting tools in their problem-solving toolbox in the area of Bullying. They are learning strategies about how to deal with bullies (if they are a VICTIM) as well as learning strategies if they are a BY STANDER.
Our third graders are in the process of finishing their problem-solving project. The students are sharing with their classmates their challenge, feelings, emoji, support system, and what they learned from the process. By sharing their process with their classmates, they are also building a lot of Self-Confidence. We are moving forward to another book study. The book is called The Legend of The Regulators and The Secret List. The discussion points will be to learn the keys to learning self-regulation.
Thank you for all your support.
Have the most amazing weekend!
