April is Autism Acceptance Month

April is Autism Acceptance Month.

We want to let you all in on what we have found in the Autism community, so that you can help us spread the word!

  • One thing that we have found is that we should really be calling April Autism Acceptance Month. It is time to move forward from being “aware” of autistic individuals and move towards accepting them. We will now be celebrating Autism ACCEPTANCE Month in April along with the autism community! We hope you will join us.

  • We would like to wear RED on April 12th to support the autism community. In many cultures, the color red represents love, good luck, joy, and celebration.

Parent/Teacher Conferences - April 15, 16, 17

Parent/Teacher conferences are on April 15, 16, and 17. The most productive conferences are when both the teacher and parent(s) focus their conversations about the child's academic, social, and emotional growth and ways that they may support achievement together. Over the years as a principal, teacher, and parent the following tips are what I learned are important for a successful parent/teacher conference.

  • Prepare questions in advance.
  • Ask about how you may support and extend your child's learning at home. (homework, activities, reading, math practice, writing)
  • Discuss your child's strengths and challenges.
  • Share information about your child. (interests, concerns, life events)
  • Review your child's work.
  • Review assessment data.
  • Talk about your child's emotional and social needs.

News from Mrs. Sims

On Monday, your child participated in a very exciting assembly where we revealed the title of our next school-wide read! Kings Road School will be reading Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White as our new title for One School, One Book! Books were sent home with the oldest sibling along with a reading calendar. This pacing calendar was purposefully created to allow flexibility in home schedules. The only ask is that the weekly reading try to be completed by Friday, so that your child(ren) are up to date with the events for our weekly trivia. We are SO excited to start this next literacy family endeavor and are so very thankful to our amazing PTO for once again generously sponsoring this event!
