The Wednesday Weekly
June 25, 2025
Message from Ms. Joanna
Dear Families,
That’s (almost) a wrap on the 2024–25 school year! As a community, we learned, laughed, danced, made art, made music, ran, and played together all year long. I am beyond grateful to the PS 107 staff for making this such an extraordinary year. You are the heart and soul of our school, and you go above and beyond every single day to give our students a joyful, rigorous, and loving educational experience. You are, in short, heroes.
Our parent community is the stuff of legends! My heartfelt gratitude to PTA Co-Presidents Mike Lew and Adam Cobb for the countless volunteer hours they’ve given—and for being true partners with me throughout the year. To the entire PTA Executive Board, your behind-the-scenes dedication is invaluable. A special thank you to all the parents who volunteered at events and in the building—reshelving books, organizing the Lost and Found, building our garden, supporting PE, and more. We truly couldn’t do any of this without you.
Two weeks ago, I asked you to share what you are grateful for about PS 107—and wow, did you deliver. I received an outpouring of heartfelt responses. Here are just a few (lightly edited for privacy):
“To be part of such a vibrant community of wonderful parents, teachers, kids, support staff, events, fun, amazing memories. For how my sons have been taught acceptance, kindness, compassion, empathy and will head into the world aware that everyone has different opinions, thoughts, preferences and they see them all equally without judgement.”
“Experienced, patient, and diligent teachers who brought care and attention to my daughter each and every day. They dealt with both academic and social issues with respect and understanding.”
“When we were choosing schools for our son, a mentor of mine told me 'All kids are flowers. Some kids are daisies and will thrive wherever they're put. Other kids are orchids and need the right conditions to thrive.' As a new parent at PS107 whose orchid son is finishing up Kindergarten, I am grateful to have found the right school with the right conditions to help him thrive.”
“I am grateful to send our children to school without worrying about their safety, I am grateful for the beautiful community we're a part of and how we all take care of one another and I am grateful for all the staff and teachers who lovingly take care of our children - who we all know are far from perfect!”
“Grateful that in a time of so much unrest across the nation, the school leadership, community and students have continued to show up, and do the hard work of embracing and celebrating differences and diversity in our school. It wasn’t always perfect and certainly we had missteps but the spirit of striving to be better offered so much comfort and hope during a trying year.”
“We are grateful for the efforts of PS107 to establish community and diversity at the school.”
“I'm so grateful that PS 107 invests resources, learning, and compassion for all learners!”
“Every 107 staff member's incredible devotion to our kids. I feel it every morning as I send my kiddos out the door with smiles on their faces.”
Thank you for sharing your reflections—it was a beautiful reminder of all we’ve built and continue to build together.
Your child’s final report card will be available tomorrow, Thursday, June 26, through your NYC Schools Account (NYCSA). To access it:
Go to schoolsaccount.nyc and sign in.
Choose your child.
Click “My Student” > “Grades” > “Report Card.”
Then click “Report Card” again to download it as a PDF.
NYCSA can be glitchy. If the report card isn’t there right away, try again 24 hours later. Also, if comments don’t appear, know that this is a system error—all teachers wrote comments. If you still don’t see the full report by Monday, June 30th, or if you need a printed copy, please contact Parent Coordinator Nadia Benlarbi at nbenlarbi2@schools.nyc.gov. (And thank you for helping us save trees by going paperless!)
To our wonderful 5th grade graduates: we will miss you dearly and hope you’ll come back to the nest to visit often. To our retirees, Ms. Galella and Ms. Glenda: your decades of service have touched thousands of lives. You leave a legacy of care and commitment that will remain with us always.
For our returning students, class assignments and supply lists will be sent out in mid-to-late August. Please note that there will be some significant staffing shifts next year. Your child may be assigned to a teacher who hasn’t “historically” taught that grade. These changes reflect our belief in the transformational power of growth and change, and we’re incredibly excited for what’s ahead.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, September 4th for the first day of the 2025–26 school year!
Until then, I wish you a summer full of rest, adventure, and family time. Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and your unwavering support of PS 107. You make this school the incredible place it is.
With love and gratitude,
Ms Joanna
Parent Coordinator Updates
What a year! As we welcome Summer (and boy did it hit this week!) and our incoming new students, we also wish well to our 5th graders as they continue their journey to middle school. Onward and Upward! For our graduating students and (our graduating parents): we are always here with open arms, a warm heart, and a big smile to welcome you back 💜
I would also like to thank all of the PTA members for a meaningful year of collaboration and partnership. Mike Lew and Adam Cobb for their steady leadership and attention to detail. Gemma Niblett and Audrey Stipanovich for being such a fantastic event team, Amber Fox and Betsy Olney- Goldfarb for their Wednesday Weekly collaboration, Konstella communications, and often last minute calendar additions!. Grace Edinger and Valerie Cahan for their valuable assistance (and for handling with ease all of my check requests!), Christine Canedo-Pullan and Carolyn Vadino for all of the DEI initiatives (bulletin boards to workshops to events) that message out to everyone that ALL ARE WELCOME HERE .
All of the parents who volunteer and give their time and energy to every effort, event, and committee here at PS 107. The partnership we have with you all is truly special and shows that community can move mountains and provide solace in equal measure.
I would also like to extend a special thank you to Larisa Fomovsky for her invaluable assistance with the lost & found this year. She came weekly to make sense of the often over-run lost and found, created a system, and provided the care and images that went into the lovely virtual lost & found document every week. Thank you so much Larisa!
Have a wonderful summer and I hope it is filled with joy, adventure, comfort, and peace!
Nadia

On Wednesday June 25th at 3pm, please join Ms Ali and representatives from the Gardening Committee for a Homestead Care Walk-Through! Learn how to take care of the garden and chickens so that you can help out with garden care over the summer. Ms Ali will demonstrate how to turn on the water, dispose of weeds, get into the coop, collect veggies and eggs, and make sure the chickens have food and water. This is not a commitment to help all summer long, but a first step if you'd like to join or help lead our summer garden care days. (The walk through will be recorded and shared afterwards.) All are welcome! Please sign-up here.
FUNDRAISERS
ANNUAL FUND
We've exceeded our 2024-25 Annual Fund goal of $210,000! THANK YOU for ALL of your support in this community-wide effort! We're thrilled to be able to partner with our school in this way, making possible so many facets of our children's educational experience. Looking ahead, we've raised next year's Annual Fund goal to $220,000 based on projected needs. The 2025-26 campaign begins on July 1, 2025.
On behalf of the PTA board and the entire PTA community (that includes all of you!), thank you so much for being a community that shows up for all of our kids! Please contact PS 107 parent Betsy Goldfarb (betsy@ps107.org), incoming director of the Annual Fund, with any questions about next year's fundraising and, as always, feel free to:
Donate via Konstella here,
Share this link with non-Konstella using friends and family, or

SUMMER MATH-A-THON
Don't put those calculators away just yet! From August 18th to August 29th, we'll be hosting a Math-A-Thon to kick off the school year. During a Math-A-Thon, students answer as many math problems as they can, either online or via worksheets, while raising money for our school! It's a great way to stay sharp and start the year strong.
We'll announce prizes and more details as the event approaches, but you don't need to wait to sign up: Summer Math-A-Thon: PS 107
*Worksheets are available now if you want to get a head start! (Perfect for those long road trips...)
2024-2025 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
SUMMER GARDENING
On Tuesday mornings, from 8-10am, come out to help water, weed, pick vegetables, collect eggs, change the chicken feed, and care for our 107 Homestead over the summer. We are seeking 1-2 people to volunteer as "leads" each week and as many grown-ups and kids as would like to stop by and get their hands dirty! If interested, please sign up here.
FALL FESTIVAL PLANNING CALL
Let’s Talk Fall Festival! Although we are in the thick of summer’s heat and humidity, it’s never too early to start thinking about one of the biggest events of the year — the Fall Festival! From bouncy houses to arts & crafts to cooking contests (and more!), it’s a fun-filled day that takes a lot of planning to pull off. The good news? Planning early makes everything more manageable — and we’re already off to a great start with a lead and some enthusiastic committee members on board.
Want to be part of the fun? Join us for a Zoom call on Thursday, July 17th at 1:00pm to learn more about the event and how you can get involved. After all, many hands make light work!
*If you can't make it but want to find out more, contact Lisa Krinsky Esterhuizen: lisa.k.esterhuizen@gmail.com.
