ATTENDANCE

When a student is absent:

  • Avalon parents need to e-mail a note to Ms. Mackey at attendance.avalon@columbus.k12.oh.us with a copy to Mrs. Moorman amoorman@columbus.k12.oh.us on the day of the absence - preferably in the morning
  • Notes from parents may be received up to nine times
  • After nine e-mails/notes from a parent to say that their student is going to be absent, a doctor's note will be required
  • In the case of a family emergency, an e-mail from a parent needs to be sent directly to the Principal, Mrs. Taylor

If your child has five absences in which there has been no note received, they will be considered unexcused and there will be a conference scheduled with Jillian Baker, the Social Worker.

1st grader, Ms. Butterworth's class

In October we learned about fire safety. We read books and watched videos about how to stay safe in a fire. To end our lesson, we drew a map of our escape plan to get to safety during a fire. Here is Hazel's safety map. She is my student of choice for this month.

English Language Learners

Launched this past week, Columbus City Schools is teaming up with Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services (ETSS) on a grassroots engagement effort to support the families of our English Learner students.

We know that many of our New American and English Learner students - and their families - have struggled this school year for variety of reasons, including their comfort levels with navigating technology.

ETSS will have seven Bilingual Liaisons - covering Arabic, Nepali, Somali-Somali, Somali-MaayMaay, Kinyarwanda, and Spanish - who will reach out and work directly with families to help increase their capacity for understanding and navigating technology, monitoring their students’ academic progress, connecting with school staff.

  • Login issues (Chromebook, Clever and learning apps, Email, Google Classroom, etc.)
  • Parent/Student Account issues
  • How to find student Zoom Meeting ID
  • How to reset your hotspot password

The Help Desk’s hours of operation:

Monday - Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

American Academy of Pediatrics Offers Tips on How to Celebrate Holidays Safely During COVID-19

The holiday season is a happy, magical time. The anticipation of celebrations and family gatherings gives many- especially children a warm and happy excitement that they look forward to each year. Maintaining this tradition is important. This year, however, the COVID-19 pandemic may require families to adjust the way they celebrate, as public health experts warn that small household gatherings may be a key reason cases have recently surged nationally.
