Emergency notification test tomorrow
Attention District 30 parents and guardians! Tomorrow, September 12, District 30 will test our emergency notification system in the afternoon. Anyone listed under your child’s primary and secondary contacts, as well as the email address used to login into Parent Portal, should receive a voice notification, text and email.
If you need to update your telephone number or email address, please visit the ParentPortal. (Go to the Forms section of and choose the option that says “Update Contact Information for District Communications.”)
Now is also a is a great time to review Emergency Procedures page for parents that outlines weather emergency protocols in District 30 at district30.org/emergency. When winter weather approaches, District 30 would utilize our emergency notification system to announce any school closures, while also posting on our website and social media channels.
How iPads are used in the classroom
This week, we continue sharing our series exploring our iPad One-to-One program. In our latest video, learn how iPads are implemented in the classroom, with a balance between traditional and technological learning that enhances the lessons, while also teaching children to be responsible digital navigators.
Please click below to watch the video and click here to explore a parent handbook that also answers frequent questions on our One-to-One iPad program. In the coming weeks, please watch this newsletter as we continue to highlight the rest of the video series.

🔬 Science Olympiad Coaches Needed
We need parent coaches!
Science Olympiad is a true community effort, and our program cannot run without parent volunteers! We are looking for parents who are willing to serve as volunteer coaches for individual events. You do not need to be a professional scientist or engineer—if you have an interest or experience in a particular area, we would love to have you share your expertise with our students.
Parent coaches can work with students to prepare for their assigned event, help them practice, and attend competitions when possible. You don't have to be a Science Olympiad expert—we can help you get started!
If you have questions about the Science Olympiad team or would like to volunteer as a parent coach, please contact Mrs. Kearns. tkearns@district30.org. We are excited to kick off year 3 of Maple Science Olympiad and look forward to another fantastic season of science, teamwork, and competition!

Fire drill follow-up
We wanted to share a quick follow-up from our first fire drill of the school year last Tuesday. We had a very successful drill, and our students did a wonderful job following directions, staying calm, and moving safely and efficiently. Members of the fire department were present for the drill and confirmed that it was very well executed. Our students and staff represented Maple so well, and we are incredibly proud of how everyone responded. Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership as we work together to keep our students and staff safe!
Maple PTAC survey deadline today
Our Maple Parent/Teacher Advisory Council is seeking parent members for the 2026-27 school year. The Parent/Teacher Advisory Council (PTAC) has been created and designed to engage our learning community in discussion and dialogue about the education of our students. The PTAC focuses on topics regarding the school’s curriculum, programming, procedures, and any other areas that may impact our students and their learning environment. Additionally, the Parent/Teacher Advisory Council will review and explore educational research and best practices relative to Maple School and the middle-level child.
We intend to maintain a 15- to 20-member council that is representative of the diversity of our Maple School community. Members of the Maple Parent/Teacher Advisory Council will be a well-informed group in order to provide support and guidance for our learning community during the school year.
Planned meeting dates are: October 5, December 7, March 1, and May 10 at 6:30-7:30 p.m. The meetings will be held in Maple School’s LMC.
If you are interested in serving on the Maple Parent/Teacher Advisory Council, please complete the PTAC Google Form below by Friday, September 11.

Girls IN2 STEM accepting applications
Glenbrook North High School's Girls IN2 STEM (GIS) Fall 2026 mentoring program is accepting middle school students
Girls IN2 STEM is a student-led organization dedicated to encouraging middle school girls to explore STEM and pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through mentorship, hands-on activities, and workshops, the group connects middle school students with high school mentors who help them discover new STEM fields and build confidence in their interests.
During this six-week cohort, each student is paired with 1-2 other mentees and 1-2 GBN mentors who share similar STEM interests and schedules. The program includes both virtual and in-person sessions at GBN, where mentors guide students through a STEM-focused curriculum and help them develop a final project based on their interests.
