Weekly News & Learning
November 21, 2025
Principal's Message
Assalamu Alaikum!
Dear NISL Families,
We are excited to update everyone that we held our first Town Hall meeting held on November 18, 2025! We are especially grateful to our PTO for taking this initiative to coordinate and plan this event, including providing food and babysitting services which allowed more families to participate. The school administration provided updates on our Ci3T implementation and recent accomplishments, shared new initiatives and communication and feedback methods. Our PTO also discussed upcoming opportunities for family engagement. Check out our presentation and a summary in the PTO section!
Student Cell Phone Use at NISL
As we continue working to strengthen our learning environment and support the overall wellbeing of our students, we kindly ask for your partnership regarding student cell phone use, especially among our younger students. Across the country, schools have been seeing an increase in classroom distractions, reduced academic focus, social-emotional challenges, and safety concerns connected to early and frequent access to personal devices. National recommendations now strongly encourage limiting or prohibiting cell phones during the school day to help students remain engaged, attentive, and socially connected in healthier ways.
At NISL, we have also observed some of these patterns. Many students in elementary and middle school are carrying personal cell phones with unmonitored access to the internet and social media during non-instructional times. This can affect learning, social interactions, and overall school climate.
We respectfully ask parents to discourage giving students cell phones at young ages and to avoid sending devices to school. Students who do not have personal phones are often more focused, more socially engaged with their peers, and less overwhelmed by unnecessary digital distractions.
Many states have now enacted laws restricting or fully banning student cell phones in schools, including Kentucky, in order to support safer and more focused learning environments. NISL will be also revising our cell phone policy in the near future to align with nationwide efforts to restrict cell phones in school. We hope to work closely with families as partners in making these positive changes.
Thank you for your continued support, your trust, and your commitment to helping us build an environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Kindergarten Enrollment for 2026–2027
We are pleased to announce that kindergarten enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year is now open for current NISL families. Children who will be five years old by August 1, 2026 are eligible to apply.
Kindly note that available seats are limited, and priority consideration will be given to siblings of current NISL students who submit applications by December 31, 2025. Applications may be picked up directly from the main office. We encourage families to apply as early as possible.
Sincerely,
Aisha Blagaia
Principal
High School Happenings
Welcome to our corner for all things high school. We decided to share all of the exciting and amazing work that our talented teachers are orchastrating for NISL's college-bound students!
Excellence in Action!
Not only are our students engaging in college-level material, they have opportunities to apply this information. Take a look!
Honors Statistics - One Variable Data Analysis Project
In this project, students applied one-variable data analysis to real-life scenarios by collecting and examining data related to everyday experiences. Data was first organized and graphed and finally interpreted by conducting statistical measures to interpret patterns, compare typical values, and identify unusual results.
AP Environmental Science - Porosity & Permeability Lab
This week, students conducted lab in which they modeled the movement of groundwater using a bottle aquifer. The objective was to understand and demonstrate how porosity affects permeability in Allah's water flow system in preparation for the AP Exam in May.
AP Pyschology - Coorelation Study
NISL's young men conducted surveys while the loung ladies conducted a naturalist observation in a research project designed to refute or support the claim the correlation between Monday mornings and bad mood and to gain competance toward College Board's AP Exam standards for operational definitions, ethical guidelines, and generalizability.
PTO Corner
From the Desk of the Principal
During our first PTO Town Hall Meeting on November 18, the school administration provided updates on our Ci3T implementation and recent accomplishments, shared new initiatives and communication and feedback methods. Our PTO also discussed upcoming opportunities for family engagement.
During the open discussion, parents raised several thoughtful questions and requests, including:
- Availability of a zip-up sweater option within the NISL uniform.
- Support for non-Arabic-speaking parents with Arabic homework.
- Concerns regarding multiple assessments or projects scheduled on the same day, and a request for increased teacher coordination.
- A request to minimize or pause homework during breaks, school-wide events, and Ramadan to allow for family time and after-school activities.
- Questions regarding school security, particularly students opening doors for others and parents following other parents into the building.
Thank you to all of the families that took the time to attend and participate! We are grateful for your time and your engagement.
