4TH GRADE
ELAR / SS
We are continuing to dive deeper into author's craft and purpose for writing, along with analyzing fiction. We've started a novel study on a classic this week, Shiloh. The kids were shocked when I told them that I read this book when I was in fourth grade! That's how great of a story it is 🙂 The students are loving discussing the characters, plot, conflict, and theme. Please take time to ask them what they've learned from the story. In Social Studies we are learning about the first settlers who came to America.
Reminders...
- Read, read, read every night.
- Practice spelling words. Tests are EVERY Thursday.
- Attendance is necessary for your child's academic success. If they will be absent, please message me on Dojo and call the office.
- PTO Movie night this Friday at the stadium!
- Please message me or Mrs. Brown if you need anything. We are here to help!
Thank you for all you do! Also a BIGTHANK YOU for those who came and met with us during conferences. We couldn't do this without you 🙂 I love being their teacher!
Mrs. Wesley
In Science, we are still exploring types of energy. On Tuesday, we are hoping to create "batteries" that will power a red LED light. Please ask your child to discuss different types of energy and how energy flows. Have them explain circuits.
In Math, we have been reviewing all operations. We have also discussed some financial literacy. Your children are getting a glimpse of how expensive life can be. We have been discussing expenses and profits.
In 5th grade Science, we are also learning about energy. We, too, will attempt to create a working battery to power an LED light. We will also be exploring light.
Thank you for sharing your children with me!

5TH GRADE
Math
-We just finished adding and subtracting decimals and slowly going in to multiplying decimals. Students are enjoying the decimals. Yay! 😊
-Please have your child practice multiplication math facts. We will soon be working with fractions, and they need to know their math facts to find common denominators and to simplify.
- I have seen a difference on a few that are practicing their math facts. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for your support,
Mrs. Gamez
Mrs. Rasco's Readers:
We have been working really hard lately. Your students really enjoyed being able to attend the Farm Tour last week! Thank you to Terry County for putting that together for our students. We are working on learning about author's voice and choice of words and how they help our understanding as readers. I'm very proud of the work they've done so far.
Social Studies Scholars:
We are reviewing what we've learned from the beginning of colonization to gaining our independence as a country. They are continuing to work hard and have shown a lot of growth.
A few notes:
- Please make sure your child brings a water bottle every day to school.
- Be sure they are reading every night at least 20 minutes a day.
- Spelling list went out later this week because of our Farm Tour. They received them on Tuesday. Spelling test will be this coming Tuesday, 10/26/21.
- Students who are in UIL, please make sure they are working at home.
