Scott Middle School's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve" Scott Middle School's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"

What Has Been Happening in Mr. Pearson's Classroom? What Has Been Happening in Mr. Pearson's Classroom?

Students have been "Volcano Hunting" in Mr. Pearson's Earth Science class. So far, students have learned to identify potential volcanic geologic locations, identify potential volcanoes in a landscape, conduct a "field study" of an area with potential volcanic activity, and study the history of a geologic area to determine if a threat of a volcano may be imminent in that place. This unit has also afforded students the opportunity to study scientific phenomena such as plate tectonics, hot spots, volcanic formation, volcanic composition, weathering, and erosion as applied to the life cycle of an existing volcano. To say the least, this has been a very interesting and fun unit to study in our Earth Science course.

Review of School Success Expectations Review of School Success Expectations

During WIN on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of last week Mr. Altland and Mrs. Lamothe spoke to teams of students to review school expectations. We are in the last 1/3 of the school year and we took the time to be proactive for success. Here is a summary of what was addressed. We appreciate you speaking with your students to follow up. Thank you for your support!

Be Where You Are Supposed to Be: Students are expected to travel directly to their classes. They should not be in hallways or staircases that they do not need to be in throughout the day.

Transitions: Students have 3 minutes to transition between classes. This is plenty of time to get where is needed. Most transitions are directly across or up the hall which only takes about 30 seconds. Students are expected to go right to their classes, and not use the 3 minutes to go find friends.

Bathrooms: We have had to close many of our bathrooms due to the poor choices happening in them. Students have been throwing food, milk and juice on the floors. They have been stuffing food and rolls of toilet paper in the toilets. Without cameras in the bathrooms, we are not always able to catch the culprits. We have closed bathrooms so that students are only going to bathrooms where an adult is around to make sure behavior is appropriate. Students are expected to use the bathroom, wash their hands, throw their trash away, and leave when using the restroom.

School Appropriate Language: Students are expected to speak respectfully to their peers and teachers throughout the day. Frustration or anger is not an excuse to curse or use racial slurs. We will continue to suspend students that lose control and make this choice. The bottom line is lead with kindness. Treat others the way you would want to be treated in that situation.

Bus Behavior: The same behavior that is expected in school is expected on the bus. Students should be in their seats, talking with friends around them, being respectful to all around them including the bus driver, and staying safe.

Walker Requirements: With the weather getting nicer, many of our students like to walk. We must have written permission- either an email or a handwritten note from families in order to let a student walk.

Thank you again for your support reviewing these expectations with your student(s).
