Principal's Message

September 12, 2025

Dear Bobcat Families,

I got to see great teaching and learning this week. Our 8th grade students were playing Mercantopoly in Social Studies with Ms. Gravely and Ms. Cline. Ms. Middlebrooks' sign language mini course learned common greetings and emotions. If your students are in these courses, ask them about it. We really have amazing teachers and students at LCI!

We are looking forward to our first No Zeroes Heroes reward on September 26th. During the afternoon, students who have no zeroes in Skyward will be rewarded with special classroom sessions. Students who have one or more zeroes will have an opportunity to catch up on work during the reward. Parents can view Skyward and help students ensure they are eligible for the reward by having no zeroes.

There will NOT be a callout on Sunday evening.

Have a great weekend!

Part of our mission at WAVE is to challenge our students, and we ask them to stretch their minds by thinking differently to reach their potential. WAVE incorporates project-based learning, and we challenge students to bring their learning to the next level through the Principles of Creativity. Creativity is not just art and glitter glue, and students don’t have to be an artist to be creative. It’s about creative ideas and demonstrating deep and complex thinking, and WAVE students are asked to incorporate creativity into their projects.

For our educational purposes, the Principles of Creativity are defined in the following ways:

  • Creativity requires time and shows evidence of planning and preparation.
  • Creativity produces an original idea or product with sensory appeal.
  • Creativity changes common ideas, materials or products to produce something unique that goes beyond the standard and expectations of the audiences.
  • Creativity promotes thinking on several levels but is understandable and relevant to its audiences.
  • Creativity achieves a purpose by capturing the audience's attention, generating interest or solving a problem- possibly producing action.

7th and 8th graders have already been instructed on these principles, and the 6th graders will have a lesson on them within two weeks. If you review your child’s project with them, ask which principle of creativity they used. It will help elevate the project.

Have a great weekend.

Making friends in middle school involves putting yourself out there, finding common interests, and being a good conversationalist. Starting small and building your social circle over time is a great way to approach this, especially if you are shy or introverted. Finding the best friend group for you is important. Spending time with people who have the same interests and goals will help propel you into the best version of you. We will be adding tips for making friends in the next few weeks. Try a few of them each week to get the best middle school experience possible.

TIP # 2: GET INVOLVED

  • Follow your interests: Joining a sports team, student council, or after-school activity is one of the easiest ways to find people with similar passions. This gives you a built-in topic for conversations.
  • Attend school events: School dances, pep rallies, or sporting events are all great social opportunities. Saying "yes" to invitations can help you meet new people in a low stakes environment.
  • Volunteer: Get involved in community services through campus activities. This is another way to meet new people working toward a common goal.

Pediatric Cancer Awareness

September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, and we want to take time to honor the brave children who are fighting cancer and remember those we've lost. Pediatric cancer affects thousands of families every year, and by learning more and showing our support, we can help make a difference. To help raise awareness, we’ll be having Dress-Up Days from Monday, September 22nd through Friday, September 26th! Each day will have a fun theme to help us show our support in creative ways. 💛

Let’s come together as a campus to show that Bobcats care and that no one fights alone. 💪

Extracurricular Student Attendance

LCI students may attend extracurricular games and performances as spectators without parents this year if they:

  • Go home after school and return
  • Do not owe fees/fines in Skyward
  • Purchase a ticket
  • Wear an ID
  • Are picked up no later than 10 minutes after the game/performance ends

Traffic Plan

Do you plan to drop off your student at LCI this year? Please review our traffic plan below. Everyone is safer and traffic flows better when everyone follows the plan!

  • Please follow the yellow arrows around the perimeter of the big lot to drop-off/ pick-up your student. Students should only be dropped-off or picked-up alongside the building.
  • Please do not park. Stay in your car in the pick-up/drop-off line. Students will not be allowed to walk out into the parking lot to meet you. This is to keep them safe.
  • If you are checking your student out early, please park in the bus parking (small lot) which is located along Webster Street. Please be aware that buses are lining from 3:00 – 3:25 and 4:00 – 4:20 and you will not be able to enter/leave the parking lot during those times. It is against the transportation code to pass a bus loading or unloading.
  • Please do not drop-off/pick-up your student on Webster Street. It is dangerous and a violation of the traffic code.
