Welcome Back, Hurlock Elementary Students, Families & Community! Welcome Back, Hurlock Elementary Students, Families & Community!

I am so excited and grateful to welcome everyone back for another school year at Hurlock Elementary! There is something special about the beginning of a new year—the excitement, the possibilities, and the opportunity for all of us to begin again and grow together.

There are so many exciting things happening at HES this year! Mrs. Church has moved into her new role as our Assistant Principal, some of our teachers have changed grades and classrooms, we have welcomed some wonderful new staff members, a few familiar faces have new names, and we are excited to begin our partnership with All4Love and Mr. Terae.

Growing Greatness! Every Child. Every Day. Every Opportunity.

Those words are more than just our theme. They represent what we believe about our children and the responsibility we share as a school community. Every moment we have with our students is a precious opportunity to help them grow into stronger readers, problem solvers, leaders, and citizens.

Every Minute Matters

Our school day is packed with learning from 8:45 a.m.–3:45 p.m. There truly isn’t time to spare.

Our commitment: Make every minute with your child count.

Our ask of families: Help us by having your child at school, on time, and here for the entire day.

Why Attendance Matters

Being at school creates opportunities—to learn, build relationships, experience success, and grow.

Last year, 100 HES students were chronically absent, meaning they missed 18 or more school days.

Together, those students missed:

2,691 DAYS OF SCHOOL

And that doesn’t include students who:

  • Missed fewer than 18 days
  • Arrived late — an area where we need your help
  • Left school early

2,691 Days = 2,691 Missed Opportunities

Missed opportunities to become stronger readers, problem solvers, leaders, and citizens.

We know life happens. Children get sick. Appointments are sometimes unavoidable.

We aren't asking for perfection. We're asking for partnership and progress.

When your child can be here, please help us make every minute count.

#NoTardyTaters!

This year, we’re making being on time a little more fun with our #NoTardyTaters initiative!

Our goal is simple: Be in the building BEFORE 8:45 a.m.

Why before? Because 8:45 is when learning begins! Students need time to get to their classrooms, unpack, settle in, and be ready to learn when the bell rings.

In the building before 8:45 → In class and ready at 8:45 → More opportunities to Grow Greatness!

Let’s Change the Story Together

Our goal is for every child to know:

You matter.
We are glad you’re here.
Your time at school matters.

Together, we can give our children more opportunities to learn, connect, succeed, and Grow Greatness.

Every Child. Every Day. Every Opportunity.

With love and excitement,
Mrs. Corkran

⏰ Attendance Matters—Every Day, All Day! ⏰ Attendance Matters—Every Day, All Day!

⏰ Every Minute Matters!
Please make it a top priority for your child to be in school from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. every day. Consistent, full-day attendance helps your child grow, stay on track, and become the strongest learner they can be!

Did you know that:

  • Children who are chronically absent (missing 10% or more of school days) are much less likely to read at grade level by the third grade and missing school means missing valuable instructional time.
  • 5 minutes late per day equals 3.4 days of lost instruction over the school year. 10 minutes late or leaving early per day equals 6.9 days of missed learning. 15 minutes per day equals 10.3 days – more than two full school weeks.
