Congratulations Congratulations

Congratulations to Mrs. Anne Papania our TOMS Staff Member of the Week! She was nominated by Mrs. Tammy Goodman!

Mrs. Papania is our Lead RBHS Counselor at TOMS. This is her 2nd year working at TOMS.

My favorite memory of middle school was our Science Club trip to a marine lab in Key Largo, FL and Beta Club trip to Chicago.

My advice to my Middle School self would be... be your authentic self and do it with confidence and kindness.

TOMS 8th graders competed in the annual NHD Regional Competition today. This year's theme was Rights and Responsibilities in History. There were many great entries, and all the students worked very hard to develop their products. Please congratulate the following who have advanced to the State Competition where they will represent Ten Oaks and Horry County to compete for a spot in the National Competition.

This week our staff enjoyed a Secret Under Ground Spirit Week! Each day we had a theme to follow to see if our students could catch on! We wore green, socks with sandals, drank from anything BUT a coffee cup, dressed in team colors and were decked out in denim! Our staff had a blast and by day three a few students started to catch on!

We are so thankful for our incredible neighborhood friends and partners at Carolina Forest Community Church! Over the past few weeks, they've opened their doors to first responders and have truly served our community in such a meaningful way. This week they even took the time to drop off snacks and refreshments for our staff! We appreciate you more than words can express! Thank you for all you do! #Grateful #CommunityStrong #ThankYou #CarolinaForestCommunityChurch

Kindness in Action!

This week, members of the Kindness Club had the privilege of presenting heartfelt thank you notes and banners to the incredible first responders at Horry County Fire Rescue Station 39 (Carolina Forest) and Station 45 (Carolina Bays).

We are beyond grateful to all of the HCFR members for their unwavering dedication, hard work, and selfless service to our community, especially during the recent wildfires. Your bravery and commitment do not go unnoticed! A huge shout-out to the amazing students and staff at TOMS who came together to share their appreciation and well-wishes with Carolina Forest's bravest!

Thank you for everything you do! #KindnessInAction #HCFRHeroes #CommunityStrong

THANK YOU Carolina Forest Civic Association! Today our TOMS PTO board members were presented with a check for $500 to put towards the incredible work they do for local students, families, teachers, and staff at Ten Oaks Middle School!

For the last 2 years, the CFCA has hosted their Annual Carolina Forest Day to bring our community together & showcase local businesses with an eye on dedicating a portion of the vendor fees & sponsorships received to the betterment of our community & the lives of our residents.

With this year's funds, their Board voted to allocate $500 to each Parent Teacher Organization in Carolina Forest to utilize as they see fit. When you support the CFCA, you support our community - it's that simple! Join them today at www.cf-ca.org!

TOMS Kind Sticky Note Shout Outs!

Our amazing TOMS Kindness Club members hung a banner by the stage, and provided an opportunity for students to write a kind shout-out to a friend or staff member on a sticky note this week. We appreciate how they helped spread Kindness throughout the school this week!

Pi Day never disappoints at Ten Oaks!

As part of our tradition, Mrs. Leppert’s and Mrs. Cotillion’s classes came together to celebrate with delicious round-shaped snacks and a fun bubble burst activity!

It’s always a blast when math and fun collide! #PiDay #TenOaksTraditions #MathIsFun

Happy Pi Day! Last Week at TOMS, we celebrate the never-ending, irrational, and oh-so-delicious number: π (Pi)! Whether you're a math lover or just here for the pie, let’s honor this infinite number that never repeats and never ends!

How are you celebrating Pi Day? Sharing your favorite pie recipe? Or maybe you’re calculating the circumference of your love for math? Ms. Phillips 6th grade and Ms. Forsyth's 8th grade classes combined to work together and calculate the numbers on round food items they shared! They definitely made a "piece" of mathematical magic! #PiDay #MathLovers #Pi #Pie #EndlessFun #3.14159

Last weekend our Science Club students, along with a few brave staff members and parents, embarked on an exciting adventure to the Georgia Aquarium! They dove into learning, had a blast touring the aquarium, and slept with the whale sharks!!

Hello TOMS 7th Grade Parents/Guardians,

It's hard to believe that the school year is already more than halfway over! We wanted to take a minute to check-in and to share some important information about your student's transition to 8th grade. Below, you will find a 'Goal Setting' Presentation that was developed to help students, and their parents/guardians navigate the middle school years and begin to plan for the future. Students will have the opportunity to watch the presentation in school but may also benefit from watching it again with a parent/guardian.

Goal Setting Presentation

7th Grade students will also be submitting their requests for their 8th grade discovery courses. Students will view the following PowerPoint Presentation in TOMS Time prior to requesting their discovery courses. Please take a minute to review this presentation and talk to your student about their discovery course requests for 8th grade.

Rising 8th Grade Discovery Request Presentation

* Students who are interested in applying for Pro Team and Yearbook for the 25-26 school year should fill out this interest form. Applications will come out later this spring- and if selected that class will take the spot of their 1st choice.

After watching the 'Goal Setting Presentation' and talking with your student about their discovery course requests for 8th grade, please call or email the assigned school counselor if you would like to schedule a meeting to discuss questions you may have about your student's transition to 8th grade and future plans.

Thank you,

TOMS COUNSELING DEPT

Dear Silver Foxes,

We are excited for all the engaging activities and learning opportunities planned for our students, staff, and community as we move through the 2024-2025 spring semester! To ensure we continue fostering a positive and productive learning environment, here are a few important reminders and updates for the remainder of the school year.

Dress Code Reminders:

With the arrival of warmer weather, we’d like to remind everyone of the Horry County Schools and Ten Oaks Middle School dress code guidelines:

Clothing should be school appropriate, with shorts, skirts, and dresses at or near fingertip length.

Midriff tops, pajamas, slippers, and visible undergarments should be left at home.

Tank tops and off-shoulder tops are not permitted, except on designated pajama days.

Shirts should be free of inappropriate language or imagery.

We appreciate your support in ensuring students follow these guidelines so that learning remains the focus of the school day.

Spring Semester Reminders:

Spring Diagnostic Testing Reminder: Students will take the iReady Reading and Math Diagnostic tests on Wednesday, 19th, and Wednesday, 26th. Ensure they are well-rested and prepared.

School Hours: 8:15 AM - 3:25 PM. Students arriving after 8:20 AM will be marked tardy. Car riders should be picked up by 4:00 PM at the latest.

Electronics: Per state law, cell phones and personal electronics must be turned off and kept in backpacks throughout the school day. Wireless earbuds and smartwatches are not permitted.

Fragrances: To accommodate those with allergies, strong scents (perfume, cologne, sprays) should be avoided. Stick deodorant is encouraged.

Clear Bags: For safety and organization, all students must use clear or see-through bags.

Water Bottles: Only clear, transparent water bottles are allowed. Other beverages should be enjoyed before or after school.

Food in Classrooms: Eating in classrooms is only permitted with staff approval or medical documentation.

Arrival & Dismissal Reminders:

Bus Riders: For bus information, contact the Carolina Forest Bus Office at (843-236-0705) or visit their social media page.

Car Riders: Please pull all the way forward in the car circle. At dismissal, students should follow Safe Dismissal procedures. Be sure to have your student’s number visible for a smooth pickup process.

Walkers: Only students from Plantation Lakes and The Parks neighborhoods are permitted to walk home. Be Advised: Parents are responsible for their child's safety if they choose to allow their child to walk to school.

Thank you for your continued support in making this semester a safe, successful, and enjoyable experience for all!

Success, Nothing Less!

Thanks,

Mr. Clifford Jones, the new Superintendent of Horry County Schools, has scheduled “Coffee with Cliff” events for the remainder of the school year. As a newcomer to Horry County Schools, Mr. Jones wants to use these events to listen to the community's ideas and concerns and to share news about the district with community members. These events are just one of many ways Mr. Jones hopes to connect with the community and listen, share, and learn to make Horry County Schools an even better district. #HCSBestDaysAhead

“Coffee with Cliff” consists of informal listening sessions and discussions. Everyone is invited, and no registration or appointment is needed. Just show up, enjoy a cup of coffee, and chat
