RAPTOR NATION
We look forward to seeing all of our students return for the first day of school on Tuesday August 25th!!! Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to our Open House and Kindergarten Welcome Conferences this past Wednesday. The smiles on students (and parents) faces energized our staff and we are ready for the 26-27 school year!
We really appreciate you taking a few minutes to review our Top of the Hill Newsletters to stay up to date on all the wonderful experiences your student will have at Rothschild!
Rothschild Elementary Morning Drop-Off Procedures
Door #2 Opens at 8:20 a.m.
There is no student supervision before 8:20 a.m.
Student safety is our top priority. Following these drop-off procedures will help keep students, families, and staff safe while also keeping traffic moving smoothly.
Morning drop-off is between 8:20–8:40 a.m.
Drop-off may occur as soon as vehicles reach the designated curb/sidewalk area. Students do not need to be dropped off directly in front of the entrance (Door 2). Please pull forward and use the entire designated drop-off zone to help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently.
Quick unload
-Parents should have backpacks, coats, lunches, etc. ready before reaching the drop-off area.
-Students should be ready to exit the vehicle quickly and safely.
-Parents should remain in the vehicle.
-If a child isn't ready to exit, the parent should drive around and re-enter the line rather than holding up traffic.
If you are walking your child(ren) to Door #2, please use the designated sidewalk and avoid walking through the parking lot. This helps keep students and families safe while vehicles are arriving and departing.
Your cooperation in following these procedures is greatly appreciated. Thank you for doing your part in keeping our students, families, and staff safe!

SCHOOL SAFETY
School Safety Information for Families
D.C. Everest administrators and staff have been proactively working with law enforcement, first responders and our Superintendent’s Office in Wisconsin to update our Comprehensive School Safety Plans and put into place effective drills that will help prepare us for incidents, emergencies or disasters that may occur at school or within the community. Below is important safety information we encourage you to review prior to the start of the school year.
Talk to Your Student About Safety
It is crucial for parents/guardians to be aware of the safety protocols at their child’s school. Engaging in conversations with your child(ren) about safety drills taking place at school is vital to helping them prepare for emergencies that may take place at school or elsewhere. By helping your student understand the district safety protocols (found below), you can help reduce fear and build a student’s trust in the systems we have in place. Open dialogues between parents, teachers, support staff and students strengthen our processes and emergency response plans. Below are the district safety protocols to review with your student.
Be Alert
“If you see something, say something!” This proactive approach is encouraged among students, parents and staff to ensure safety concerns are reported immediately to school administrators or appropriate first responders, especially if there is a potential for imminent danger.
Drills
DCE schools comply with Wisconsin safety drill mandates. Some of the safety drills we conduct are, per the mandates, unannounced. These drills provide the DCE safety team with the opportunity to assess the effectiveness of our responses. We conduct the first of our fire and lockdown drills within the first two weeks of school to ensure our students are informed and prepared for potential emergencies.
For the past several years, D.C. Everest has followed an established protocol in the event an unauthorized person enters the school building. If that occurs, a building-wide alert is announced, and students and staff are instructed to lock their classroom doors, turn off the lights, and hide while remaining quiet.
Research indicates, however, that to increase their chances of survival, students and staff should be provided with additional options when confronted with an intruder. Therefore, DCE has enhanced the traditional lockdown protocols with a new Run, Hide, Take Action Training and Instruction that will be implemented across the District. These procedures are endorsed by safety experts across the country, including the Department of Homeland Security.
Run, Hide, Take Action
In an active shooter situation, the protocol of Run, Hide, Fight is adopted:
Run
Have an escape route and plan in mind
Leave your belongings behind
Run regardless of whether others agree to follow
Help others escape, if possible
Prevent others from entering an area where the active shooter may be
Call 911 when you are safe
Hide
Hide in an area out of the shooter’s view
Lock the door or block the entry to your hiding place with tables, chairs or any other sizable item
Silence your cell phone so you are not detected by the shooter
Take Action
Fight as a last resort and only when your life is in imminent danger
Attempt to incapacitate the shooter
Commit to your actions — your life depends on it
Emergency Procedures
Fire: Evacuate and do not return until it is deemed safe.
Lockdown: Take action based on the nature of the threat, which may include locking doors and covering windows.
Shelter in Place: Used during external threats, students are secured inside buildings.
Reunification Off Site: In rare instances, where more distance is needed to ensure student safety, students may be relocated to another site for reunification with parents/guardians. Parents will be advised of reunification sites through our School Messenger all-call system, websites and social media channels.
For your safety and the safety of students, staff and first responders, please:
DO NOT REPORT TO THE SCHOOL — procedures are in place to safely and efficiently reunite students with parents/guardians.
Ensure you have persons authorized to pick up your student(s) LISTED ON YOUR STUDENT’S EMERGENCY CARD in Infinite Campus (you can find more information linked HERE). No student will be released to any other adult, if not listed on the current emergency card.
Have your photo ID with you at the reunification site; it will be required at the time of pickup.
Communication During an Emergency
During an emergency at a D.C. Everest school, communication is distributed through the School Messenger all-call system, the district websites and our social media channels. To ensure you receive timely alerts, please update your emergency contact information. Please visit the DCE Safety and Security webpage to update your contact information in Infinite Campus.
Parents are advised to:
Remain at home/work and monitor our communication channels (website, social media, email, texts) for updated information.
Avoid sending repeated texts or phone calls to students’ personal cell phones; doing so may alert intruders to your child’s location and may tie up the cellular systems, potentially delaying a safe and effective response
Refrain from proceeding to the site of the emergency — doing so may block roads and prevent First Responders from responding in a timely manner; only proceed to the site if advised to do so by the district or law enforcement
Avoid posting unverified information to your social media channels — this can lead to mass confusion and misinformation
For any concerns or questions, please contact your building principal.
WE INVITE YOU TO BE A VOLUNTEER AT OUR SCHOOL!
Every day, D.C. Everest volunteers make a huge impact on the educational experience of our students. Volunteers are welcome and greatly appreciated. Whether you are interested in a one-time, one-hour project or an ongoing opportunity, we will find something that fits your schedule, talents and desires.
We continually strive to build a culture of civic engagement across our K-12 curriculum and strengthen connections district wide through meaningful engagement. With safety as a top priority, D.C. Everest has updated how it approaches the use of volunteers who may work with our students. All school sites across the D.C. Everest Area School District (DCE) and Greenheck Fieldhouse Recreational Programming will utilize an automated volunteer management program called Volunteer Tracker to manage volunteer opportunities. Volunteer Tracker allows us to manage our volunteer program across the district, track and recognize the volunteer contributions of community members, send reminders to our volunteers/staff, and conduct criminal background screenings. A snapshot of the different levels of volunteer opportunities and an overview of the application and background check procedures associated with each is provided below. If you have questions about volunteer opportunities at a specific school, please contact the Rothschild Elementary School Office.

NON-CUSTODIAL PARENT MAILINGS
D.C. Everest Elementary Schools will send the following information to non-custodial parents routinely: state test scores, progress reports, parent/teacher conference schedules, and excessive absence notifications. Copies of other information students receive at school are given to students in the classroom. Non-custodial parents can receive this information by making arrangements with the homeroom teacher. It is the responsibility of the parents to make this contact. This information can also be mailed to the non-custodial parent if self-addressed, stamped envelopes are provided to the school. Envelopes provided will be given to the homeroom teacher to be used to mail informational items as. they become available.
DCE NUTRITION SERVICES
View our Nutrislice Menu for all school meal choices.
Remember to make deposits for your child(rens) accounts. Have them bring in cash or check in a deposit envelope with their name, ID number, and deposit amount and turn it into the office at their school. Otherwise, go to www.MySchoolBucks.com to complete a direct deposit.
At this time, we kindly ask that parents not join their child for lunch during the school day. We work hard to create a comfortable, consistent routine for all students, and lunchtime is an important part of building independence and peer connections. We appreciate your understanding and support as we prioritize a smooth and supportive environment for all learners!
Special Occasion Treat and Snack Reminder
· Per school policy, “Food items brought in for treats need to be commercially prepared with an intact ingredient label listing allergy information and must not contain nut products” (this includes peanuts and tree nuts).
· “In addition, nut-containing products will not be served in the school meal program in grades K-5. Students in grades K-12 may pack a cold lunch containing nut products. Those meals should be eaten in the cafeteria only.”
Students are highly encouraged to bring a healthy snack from home each day. There is very limited amount of snacks available at school for students that forget.
DCE BUSSING INFORMATION

SCREENERS
Universal Screening Tools:
• The universal screening tool aimswebPlus includes assessments (grades K-5) for math and
reading to help determine where students might have gaps in knowledge and skills and need
assistance. The assessments are administered in fall, winter, and spring. In the area of
literacy for grades K-3, aimswebPlus is the universal screening tool required in Wisconsin as a comprehensive assessment of young children's knowledge of literacy foundational skills
that are predictive of future reading success.
• aimswebPlus universal reading screening data will also be used to determine which students
would benefit from continuing in the screening process through use of informal, diagnostic,
individually administered assessment tools in the areas of phonemic awareness, decoding,
fluency, and spelling. This will help us identify students who display risk factors associated
with dyslexia/related difficulties. The results from these assessments are not intended or
designed to diagnose dyslexia; their purpose is to identify children who are experiencing
reading difficulties that may require extra support and ensure that support is targeted to
each student’s areas of need.
• The 7 Mindsets survey (grades 1-5) measures student perceptions and attitudes in
categories representing the seven mindsets (Everything is Possible, Passion First, We Are
Connected, 100% Accountable, Attitude of Gratitude, Live to Give, and The Time is Now). The
results show areas for growth and development in mindsets at the individual student,
school, and district levels. Each mindset is assigned three questions that determine the
strength and level of student self-awareness. The results will help guide instruction for
mindset lessons and language. This survey is administered two to three times per year.
Wisconsin State Assessment System:
• In spring, the Wisconsin Forward Exam will be administered to all students in grades 3-5. The
Wisconsin Forward Exam is designed to gauge how well students are doing in relation to the
Wisconsin Academic Standards. These standards outline what students should know and be
able to do in order to be college and career ready.
• Students in grades 3-5 will take the English language arts (ELA) and math portions of the
exam.
• Students in grade 4 will also be tested in science and social studies.
Thank you for supporting the D.C. Everest School District’s efforts to build a system of student
supports linked directly to data. This initiative will ensure each of our students has the opportunity
to receive the assistance they need to achieve academic and social-emotional success. Please do not
hesitate to contact your building principal if you would like to discuss any of the assessment
processes or the options of opting your child out of a specific assessment/survey.
ROTHSCHILD ELEMENTARY ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES
ATTENDANCE
When a child is absent, a parent/guardian should call school 715-359-3186, press 1 for attendance voicemail, by 9:00 a.m. to inform the office that the child will not be in attendance. If a family does not call to inform school about a student’s absence, the school will make a reasonable attempt to reach a parent/guardian at home or work. If the office is not able to contact a parent to get an explanation for an unreported absence, the absent child will be recorded as “unexcused”. Police/SRO Zwicky may be called if we are concerned with the safety of the child. After a student has been absent, he or she should bring to school a written excuse signed by a parent/guardian. For doctor or dentist appointments, please bring a slip from their office to have the appointment considered as a medical excuse. Absences beyond five per semester may need a doctor’s excuse. The only excused absences are those due to illness of the student, death in the family, a doctor or dentist appointment that cannot be scheduled after school hours, or whenever the principal considers that exemption from attendance is in the best interest of the student.
STUDENTS WHO ARE TARDY
Children who arrive at school after the attendance bell (8:45AM) will be considered tardy. When such cases occur, parents/guardians should check their child into the office and state the reason for the tardiness. The attendance secretary will make the necessary changes in the school attendance report.
STUDENTS LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY
At times, it may be necessary for you to schedule an appointment or an emergency occurs which requires an early release of your child(ren). Please send a note to school informing the teacher of the early release. Parents/Guardians picking up students during the school day must always check in at the school office and sign him/her out. The teacher will then be contacted to dismiss the student. Parents/Guardians may not remove students from a classroom, lunchroom, playground or location other than the office. Students will not be permitted to wait for parents/guardians in the parking lot or at a curbside location. This procedure will be followed for your child's protection.
CHANGES FOR STUDENT PICK-UP DURING THE DAY
If a parent/guardian needs to change the plan for pick-up/bus drop-off at the end of a day, the parent/guardian must call the office and notify the secretary by 3:00 PM. The secretary will relay the message to the teacher and the student. Do not email the child’s teacher or leave messages on their phone, as the teacher may not get the message before the end of the day.
